944 S2 Breaking for spares ??

I agree and its not a desision ive taken lightly but if i dont use the parts to fix my turbo then i wont be able to afford to repair it then i would have to scrap it so either way one has to go the journey. If you ever bought parts from a breaker like porchapart would you say to them dont break any 944's and repair them instead ??. Also if non were broken for parts then there would be alot less on the road now as some people cant afford to buy new parts !!

Its got a burgundy interior with pin stripe like mine [8D]

If you break it can I have first dibs on the luggage blinds, the boot carpet and the cassette cover/central arm rest please. Or if you do sell it as a going concern I`ll still buy the luggage covers.

I actually really like the interior colour as it suites the car and its near mint. It is definatly getting broken but i was planning on selling the carpets etc with the seats as a full interior but if the buyer doesnt want them you can have first refusal on them .Its the first 944 that ive had thats still got all the cassette holders in place as well !!!

Will you sell me the luggage cover. I`ll tell you why I want it. Its the right colour and its a one piece whereas mines the `rare` cloth split blind for my split seats.

I dont need to split the seats but need (and want) a retractable luggage cover and am reluctant to fit a different colour one. In fact if no one`s interested I may very well take the rear seats as one of mine has a tear and I could fit the single seat back with blind.

Please??

Due to the condition of the interior which is almost imaculate, i really want to sell it as a full trim but as ive had very little interest in the parts im not going to be breaking it till have found somwhere to store the parts !!!

Its mad breaking that car, other than the engine problem it looks in far better condition than my 944S2.

Maybe I should scrap mine too if its worth more ias parts???[&:][:(]

"Im not sure if the engine has been damaged or not ,it was driven for about 12 miles with no oil but hasnt seized and still turns over."

are you sure its got no oil pressure?? I can't believe an engine - any engine- can run for 12 miles with no oil pressure. It would have siezed within a mile or so.
Or at least now be horribly rattly and over heating. Check the gauge or sender is not at faullt or simply the wiring or even a fuse.

It definatly ran for 12 miles to the garage, the engine hasnt seized and will still run but now has more rattles than mothercare !!! I agree i must be mad to break it and if i didnt have the turbo i would have sorted it out but i just dont need another car !!!

Looks in better nick (body wise) than mine. Although it's always difficult to tell from the photographs!

I was in a similar situation with my first S2 that had terminal rot in the outer and inner sills and I decided to break it. It made more cash back than selling it as a going concern, and has provided me and lots of other people with spare parts.

But knowing what I know now, I really regret it.

If the body is really as good as it looks though, then it would be an even harder decision to take.

At the end of the day though it is Random's car so he can choose to do with it what he likes with it. A breaker wouldn't think twice about breaking it and would have more commercial prices in mind for the resulting pile of spare parts.

Phil

At last someone who see's my point of view . The body work is as good as it looks infact the whole car is near mint apart from the engine. It does seem a shame but without the parts my turbo will never get done and its not worth much as a complete car as it stands, plus it was on its way to a breakers yard anyway if i had'nt of bought it !!!

... and that's the fact with these cars - you can break them for more than you can sell them whole for.

BUT, look up there ^^^. Yup, at the top of your screen. What does it say? "Porsche Club GB Forum". This is an enthusiasts forum, for people who like these cars and want to keep them on the road. If it was "Car Breakers UK Forum" then we would be talking about the best way to make money from them by breaking them, how much to charge for what and so on. But we are not.

Random Hero - I appreciate that it is your car, and therefore your prerogotive to do with it as you choose, but I am disappointed by your decision to break it. That car is in (almost certainly) better nick than mine, and I intend to keep mine on the road for as long as possible. Yes, you can and will make more money from it as parts, but I think that this is somewhat missing the point. You could very easily buy the parts you need for your turbo from a breaker, taken from a damaged or very rusty car, and put that delicious S2 back on the road. You choose not to. As I said, your choice, but don't expect to get any support for some people in this decision.

Oli.

Can't belive you're breaking this. I'd be chuffed with a car in that good shape. My Lux is in worse shape that that and I've no intention of letting it die anytime soon.
You may be able to get more money for the parts than for the car as a whole but isn't that just a bit mercenary? There's probably years more enjoyment in this car for someoneelse. Sorry if I'm speaking out of turn but....

90 944 S2 (Breaking for spares soon !!)
88 944 turbo (220-M030)
83 944 lux
Audi A4 1.8T sport avant

.... the sort of garage I would love to be able to afford.
Are you sure you can't stretch to the bits you need??
