Thankfully for now my work on the s2 has finished, this months project was was to remove all the sound proofing from the rear of the car and replace the rear carpets with something much lighter, this was a task and a half especially with the front seats not being able to move forward out the way and then removing all the glue from the sound proofing,

Once this was complete i then replaced the rear carpet with a much lighter product purchased from flebay,i then fitted the new harness i had to the passenger seat and the went on to make a harness bar which i could fix between the hoop of the rear cage which i put in last year, once i obtained the correct tubing i then welded two brackets on each end so i could secure it to the cage....( inside finished )

Then decided after overhauling the brakes late last year with new discs, yellow EBC pads and racing fluid they would benefit from some proper cooling, to achieve this i wanted to replace the front bumper driving lamps with air ducts. Once i found the ducts i could work with i then trimmed them to fit, added mesh to stop any debris going down the pipes and then painted...next was to strip out the driving lamps and then fit the new ducts along with the correct air pipes to brakes... the only thing that was bugging me was that i had no side lights and after reading suggestions on this forum i decided to replace the front indicators with clear ones and use the unused half as a side light, so i move the wires for the side lamps up behind the indicators and drilled a hole in the unused side of each indicator which then aloud me to fix the side lamp in and then earth it, the only thing i wasn't happy about having clear lenses on the front because there were no other clear lenses any where else on car and i didn't really want to change any other lights as i quite like the orange indicators on these cars...what could i do? ah ha, i remembered seeing some orange indicator repair tape in my local motorist discount shop so nipped down there and made a purchase, i then applied the tape over the indicator part of the lens which went on very neatly and hey presto i now have a side light and an orange indicator which matches the other indicators on the car ...to finish i then splashed out and had i new cat 1 alarm fitted to replace the 10 year old system which had stopped making any noise... project finished....

So i thought... until i purchased a short shifter from flebay due to seeing the link on this forum, but anyhow that's another story already listed on here so i wont go over that again.

Wow, it's looking good Steve. Isn't the removing the sound deadening tedious! Have you removed the felt on the arches or left those (mine was really damp)? What about the bitumous pad on the boot floor? How have you found the noise increase?

The carpet from eBay sounds intersting, any chance of a link? Also where did you get the mesh from, all I can find looks a bit too ricey for me [:)]

Sorry, loads of questions!

That looks to be a very, very good conversion Steve.

I do like those ducts, where did you get them? Because your car is black they look very stealth and not an obvious conversion too. Same with the orange/white indicator/side lights.

You'll have to get her on a weighbridge at some point, it would be interesting to see where you are at?

That looks fantastic, love the brake ducts/lights a really smart conversion. I have been looking at carpet on ebay to do the same work as you. If you can provide a link to someone good that would be kind.

That looks fantastic and I love those seats. How are you finding your four point harnesses on the local Sainsbury's run? [;)]

I too would be interested in the link for that carpet - you mave have started something here.

I like the brake ducts.. VERY nice + neat....

Also the cage.. Where did you get the connectors from, for the diagonal brace?. I see its removable.??
Also the harness bar is that removable too.?? If so how. I cant just see in the pics....
In fact ive just taken another look, + those indicator/ sidelights are FAB.. Realy neat.. Nice touch....[:D][:D][:D][8D][8D]

Only one negative though.. Im not keen on your side cills.. They look too heavy....But its all subjective...

Thanks for the comments guys, that makes it all worth while on its own, removing the sound proofing was a big chore but i ended up removing every thing non metal from the rear seats backwards, the noise is a lot louder but that for me just makes it feel even more like a proper race car... the carpet i used was nothing moor than good old Acoustic carpet, very flexible, light and easy to work with plus it is the right colour for my car especially once i had replaced the door card carpets in the same product... [FONT=verdana,geneva"]http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Ambassador-Car-Mats-t-a-wercarmats [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]The ducts were from http://www.gprdirect.com/epages/gprdirect.storefront, they were the largest they had and did need a bit of working to get them to fit, the mesh was spare that my mate had floating around his body shop but i believe its the same as you can buy in halfords. Would love to get it on a weigh bridge someday to see if its been worth it in weight... The drivers harness i have had for over a year now and i love the way it pins you into the seat and to be honest i only don't usually use the car for short journeys so strapping my self in is not a problem.[:)]

Cool, thanks Steve.

I'd love to see a get together at a weigh bridge, particularly if we can get stock cars along of differing models (including 968). I just don't trust the Porsche figures as there seen to be too many discrepencies, so it'd be nice to make it a bit more official (like Rick's power chart). Perhaps we could try to do something at a trackday as I'd have thought most circuits have one (also a bit classier than meeting at the local tip!).

Nice job Steve. Jjust wonder where did you get the lights from and the link to the air ducts product page please.

The indicators & ducts look fantastic - like Porsche should have made them in the first place. [:D]

Looks like you could run some wider rubber - are those 9" wheels all round ? (I'm interested as I have a set of 9x17 cup 3 replicas in the garage waiting for my 16" track tyres to wear out)

Steve, what you've achieved with the interior of your car is EXACTLY what I want to achieve with mine - it looks fantastic! I've see the link to the carpet company, but I'm assuming you just bought it in a roll and cut to fit? If so, please tell me you made up some templates and I can buy them off you?! Only real differenece is mine is Linen?! How far did you go? I'd like to see a picture looking back to the boot from the door aperture. I've got rid of all the carpets and sound deadening from mine already (just recovering from inhaling copious amounts of glue-remover), and just use the OE boot carpet. Are you using this and the OE side trim carpet as well? Finally, do you think the roll centre would produce the same roll cage set-up as you have off the shelf now? How much did you spend on it all in? Many thanks, great car.

Hi bennyboy, ye your right in saying the carpet was on a roll which i cut into sections by eye and then trimmed once in the car, i spent many hours trying to get it right but sorry i didn't make any templates otherwise you could of had them, i did use the original boot carpet as a template as i carpeted from the rear seat backwards first working on the rear seat wells, then onto the boot sides and then onto the boot carpet...as for the cage i had to wait 6 weeks for it to be built and then it came to me in kit form as they only make a cage for a 944 without a sunroof... I will click some more photos for you and post them later if that any help.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Steve,

I like the side skirts too. Wonder where you got them from?

There's a similar design of skirt available from DP Motorsport, although given the exchange rate I bet the American one works out cheaper!
Steve, how did you find the fit of them? I have to admit I've been quite impressed by my GT Racing stuff, certainly much better than I've read about anyway!

The skirts did need a bit if working but basically went straight on the car and are held in place with pot rivets, the skirts and front splitter worked out to be nearly double the original cost in dollars due to the import tax, air handling at LHR and then my fuel there to collect it all... i did purchase a set for a friend from dp motorsport and they were of good quality but expensive...
