944 S2 Late winter project... brake ducts ect...

Thanks for the extra pics Steve, really impressive work! Not sure I'd have the patience! Your carpet supplier does not have a suitable colour for me, so I'll have to look elsewhere. Cheers, Bennyboy

All the carpets and sound deadening stuff is out, and TBH, I'm quite satisfied with the standard of the paint underneath (now polished). I think I'll be happy to leave the OE boot carpet in place for normal road use, and just remove it for track day/hill climb stuff, and I'm not too worried about the boot sides. However, I am strongly considering trimming the rear seat wells, because the paint is not so good there. I've got linen leather (and door cards/dash plastic) and the plan is to get some cream/beige vinyl bucket seats later this year, and a cage like yours. I've just found some beige stretchy vinyl on the web which I quite fancy??

Steve, just a quick question regarding your brake ducts if I may. Have you connected the piping from the ducts to the existing apperture in the inner wheel arch? Have you then connected any piping from said apperture directly to the discs? Thanks, Bennyboy

I fixed the air cooling pipes from the duct, down into the lower part of the wheel are lining via the lower engine bay area and then its fixed to the strut and pointed directly at the rear of the disk...i will have the car on a ramp saturday as the drive shaft boot splitt on the ring sunday so i will post a couple of pics saturday night/sunday morning ...

Thanks Steve, so you haven't used the existing aperture in the wheel arch lining - does anybody know where air is collected from to feed this bit? Have you noticed an improvement in braking then?

To be honest no... late last year i replaced the disks, fitted EBC yellows and braided hoses, and changed the fluid with the blue.. and after all that the brakes were 80 percent better as far as brake fade goes... after visting the ring for the first time this year i noticed i was getting bad brake fade after decreasing my speed form 125 to 60 mph and couldnt under stand why as last year at the same point all was realy good ? any way upon closer inspection and driving i have come to the decision that my discs have warped ! so to be honest the extra brake cooling has yet to play any part until i replace the discs again... Oh what fun.[:)]

The factory M030 ducts collect air through two large holes at the corner of the wide stripe vents as shown here:

So is there any ducting from those points Paul? Sorry, my car is not with me right now. I suppose just hooking up some ducting from the M030 ducts directly to the disks should improve cooling then?

I was going to run the ducting pipes from the above areas of the bumper but on the o/s of the front bumper i have an oil cooler so there was no other claer space to run a duct pipe hence why i went for the ducts .

No, there was a picture in another thread recently showing a 6" by 3" oblong hole at the front of the wheel arch liner where the duct comes through the front bumper. I simply attached a flexible hose like Steve's right through to the centre of the brake disk

Sorry to bring up another 'thread from the dead' (quite like that!) here, Paul, have you got a picture of your hose arrangement? Took a look at the gap between my arch lining with the vent and the front of the tyre last night - not much room at all! Would like to see how you fit it all in! Cheers

Sorry but I haven't got any pics of my hoses installed.

I have new hoses to be refitted before my next track day (but that is unlikely to be anytime soon)
