944 S2 - my first Porsche?

currently drive a top speced Mondeo Estate 6 speed diesel which is very east and smooth to drive . I imagine the whole clutch gear thing was just me not being used to the car but it may as you say require a little more investigation i am know expert but it seemed a pretty good example, I will dig out a link later

My clutch lasted 160K miles, it was very heavy and would judder in traffic on a hot day so I knew it was worn. The new clutch is amazing. Really light and positive feeling. One can just push it up and down without thinking much about the bite point and get totally smooth fast changes. In fact it reminds me somewhat of the clutch in a mk5 golf, another car where the engineers have perfectly matched the characteristics to the car.

Same goes for gear linkages. An S2 and I imagine the 951 as well are an absolute joy to drive when a fresh set of gearbox linkages and clutch is fitted, only modern car I have driven with a nicer shift and clutch combo is the mx5, but the mx5 is more difficult to drive really smoothly.

As for running costs, well looking back over the past few years I reckon my S2 on a per mile basis cost about the same to run as my daily driver swedish dog. If I didn't need a car with 4 proper seats I wouldn't hesitate for a second to go back to driving the S2 as my daily driver, and only car. You don't need another car (well a 3.2 951 but thats a different beast altogether)
 
if anyone was down gloucestershire way and fancied trying to park at the bottom of my drve so i can get an idea of if the entrance is OK or not that would be great.....

We'll get Geoff Ives to divert the Frontrunners Rally past your front door and we can see how many 944s fit on your drive! [;)]
 
The Silver Roses came out in late '87 (250bhp, M030, LSD, gearbox cooler) and the turbo S came out in '88.
 
Xenon did you get chance to take soem photo's of your cars interior yet, assuming you are still thinking of selling?
 
Not yet - I'm supposed to be off work next week (I say 'supposed' as it's manic at the moment) but I was intending, in between going to the golf course and the pub, to prepare the car for sale. I will post or email you some pictures then, as I can take some pictures in daylight.
 
OK, my driveway fears maybe over as i looked at a 944s on the road by work today (it was a state paint work wise), however it was not as low as the s2 viewed on the weekend . Are all models the same ground clearance wise as the s2 may have been lowered or something.
 

One of the nicest examples i've seen advertised was the S2 that Mike had up on Pistonheads, but i believe that he's seen sense and has decided to keep it. This was on for approximately £7,000, which seemed like a very good price for a near concours spec car.

I've seen some cars going for more, and i wondered what the forum thought of these cars that are on Piston Heads.

The asking price is a bit out of my range, but are they really amazing examples and worth the asking price??

It's really impossible to say without seeing the car and you should judge every car on it's individual condition. There might be one or two truly immaculate concours standard vehicles in the country that really do look like a new car and they could demand a higher price. Unfortunately the market for such a car will be extremely small and you need to find a buyer who wants to own such a car and show it, enter competitions etc
 
The guards red one is in dream land at that price and, as Paul says, the low-mileage one appeals to a very narrow market and hence why it has been on PH for *ages*.
 
I'd say that £10k is realistic for an S2 in trully concourse condition with glass-out respray, new seals all round etc. And, all the usual mechanical bits in perfect condition.

Problem is that once you use it it's just another S2. A few stone chips and a parking dink and you're back to square one with a car worth £5k. I'd prefer to buy a good car and have the work done myself than one that's been restored already at that price!
