Fen, why do you say full porsche history is not a good thing with the s2?ORIGINAL: Fen
I'd agree with Andrew - almost anyway. Maybe £2,000 to £6,500 depending on the details. It's easily possible for a 124k miler with full history to be a shed and full Porsche history is not a good thing with an S2; that tells me right away the cam chain wasn't looked at for 104k miles so it very likely needs £1,500 worth of camshafts.

Sounds like it might be about right. Nice interior or pinstripe non-sport velour? I was serious about the cams; if there is nothing in the paperwork to say they have been looked at then it's very likely at 124k they are knackered.
I will def check through all the paperwork and I take note, thanks. Interior is full black leather in very nice condition. I have some pics but have'nt yet worked out how to post them on here. it is asking for the link, they are sat here on my desktop...

If they aint ever been checked then you "probably" will need a new set....
Also dont be fooled into just putting a new chain + pads on ,, as the old chain will have most likely stretched over time causing the cam sprockets to wear incorrectly , when you then put a new chain on ,it contacts a different part of the cam teeth + can snap off the teeth, then causing ,in the worst case, the top end to sieze up + DISASTER....££££££££££££££££
This IS exactly the same for a 968 also....
OPC,s NEVER check these bits....[][][][][][]
As you maybee able to tell i found this out the "expensive" way....[][][][]
Also check if the clutch has been chainged "recently"
If not then budget for another £600 ish for that to be done...As they only last for aprox 100,000 ish miles...
This is NOT meant to put you off the car in any way , its just nice to go in well informed...
Saying all that for £4500 it sounds OK....
Enjoy.......+ Happy 944S2,ing....

Right, the best thing about posting stuff on the Net is that the person you are communicating with cannot see your embarrassment, so here goes. I thought all that needed to be confirmed was that the cambelt had been changed and that the belt had been re-tensioned at some point afterwards. I am now, however, totally confused as I think what you guys are saying is that the cam chain needs to have been changed. Pardon my ignorance, but I thought that you cannot have a cambelt AND a camchain??!! What's going on??!! What do I need confirmation of??!! PLEASE HELP ME BEFORE I INVEST MY LIFE SAVINGS ON A (BROKEN) GARDEN ORNAMENT!!!!!

I would go take a look, if possible take along someone who knows these cars (sure someone would volunteer if you put out a plee) then if you think it's a good buy start looking through the history (full bills not just stamps in the service book) then finally you could get an indipendant specialist to take a look. If all this checks out you will be as sure as anyone else you have value for your money.
