Zermatt silver is not gold, I would never by a gold car.[:'(]
It's silver, well it is on a very very sunny day just out of direct sun light with a NE'ly wind on the 3rd Tue of every 2nd month of the year.[:-]

Ive followed 944s for sale for a couple of months now and know quite a lot that have been on a while. The `show car` will be, for want of better words a $hitter. That dealer has sold some garbage recently

Your's matches the pics in my 1990 sales brochure and is what I've always believed to be the correct spacing from the factory

They look fantastic in white when they are clean and tidy, don't they?

that was just after a hard day's polish. It doesn't look as clean as that now !

This is my old car and I can vouch for it. http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/698036.htm
There's a thick folder with every invoice from day 1 and all MOTs. It even has the bag for the sunroof. I had it for 18 months and did 14k miles driving 300 miles to Norwich and back once a week, and it never missed a beat. Fully serviced by Autowerke Norwich 2 months ago, and the REAL mileage is 115k!
I'm selling it because in a moment of weakness I bought a 993. Wife still not recovered from the shock [;)]
There's a hint of rust just appearing on the sills and a tear in the driver's side seat bolster, but apart from that it's perfect. Believe you can still get the Porsche logo cloth to re-cover the bolster (can anyone confirm this?), but was too busy driving it to get it done.

Arent HT leads and related components supposed to be prime for that ?

Also I think my cars idle went dicky when I needed a new MAF , the car ran superbly after the recon MAF was fitted.

I'm sure the real experts will be along soon :p

Regards Mas

Would the Idle Air Control Valve be sticking perhaps... ? It gunges up with gunk and sticks. I think it is under the manifold .. Take it off and soak both ports with carb cleaner and leave overnight to eat up the gunk.. Clean out with a compressed air line and refit....!

I dont have experience of this myself but my old 2ltr Cav would do this on a regular basis... !

As said above an S2 expert will be along soon....[;)]

I had this exact problem and it was a split in the air hose that went into the back of the idle control valve. It's very well hidden under the intake manifold. Easier to feel than to see.

Its an AFM not a MAF [;)]

Hi jason
sounds like your car has quite a common problem due to lack of regular use. You don't say how long ?

There are so many things on our cars that are over 20 years old and have never been serviced ,repaired or replaced that it is a miracle that they work at all really.

i would start by making sure that there is plenty of fuel in the tank. if it was last run nearly empty its highly likely that the pump will struggle to prime the fuel system properly and build up sufficient pressure to operate the injectors unless it has some help from a good head of fuel in the tank. Both of the two times this has happened to my car were started by running the tank empty then leaving it for a few weeks unused.!

next I would systematically clean all the important connector contacts especially the injector connectors, the crank/speed sensor connector, Low and high tension connections including the ignition amplifier.

It would be useful to clean some of your earths especially the two ECU earth points under the dash near the fuse box.

You might try starting and running the car with a 3x way DME relay bypass in place of the DME relay. if you've not run the car for a bit the relay switch pivots could be sticky and the contacts oxidised. The 3x way bypass will eliniminate the DME relay being the cause.

lastly you may have to have your injectors cleaned and tested but first check the fuel pressure and the fuel pressure leak-down rate to make sure you haven't got a problem with low fuel pressure due to a faulty FPR valve FPD Damper valve or the non return valve in the fuel pump.

Whatever you do do not replace your fuel pump as they are very rarely at fault but its the first thing garages tend to replace becsause they don't make any money testing your pump.[]

good luck . My 2x experiences would suggest it is likely to be low fuel pressure . You can get a throw-away fuel pressure guage on ebay for £10-15.00
There are lots of threads on the forum about testing the fuel delivery system .

if its not starting, give it a good crank for 20 seconds or so and check that you have fuel on the plugs and if you are getting a spark .
That should help direct you to the likely cause.
