944 Silver Rose Alloy Wheels - HELP

I am getting my Silver Rose wheels taken back to factory colour this week and the company who are doing them dip them in acid first to remove all the paint / powder coating then bead blast the wheels to remove any excess paint before cleaning thoroughly before taking them back to factory look.

My question is this : Are the wheels just Forged Alloy or is there any magnesium in them as I have been told that magnesium wheels cannot get dipped as they will dissolve in the acid [:-]

If not is there any risk to the wheels being dipped to remove the powder coating

Thanks [:)]

I believe that there is magnesium in there if they are genuine Silver Rose wheels.

The original finish is also just bare metal as far as I can see from mine.

There is Mg in them, but also in pretty much other wheels such as in regular Phone Dial wheels. The content in PD is actually higher, did the calculation yeaaaaaaaaars ago, so there is no concern to be had.
Had mine restored 5 years ago or so, they are now painted silver, not been a problem.

Yes the original finish is anodized so won't be getting them back to original.

I will be happy to have them back to silver with the best possible finish I can get with the powder coating.

You can still get companies that anodize Martin but they are not cheap ! my Fuchs really need redone and i am waiting until i have the spare cash to have them redone with anodised rims.

I've also managed to get a spare set of wheels (thanks Steve Simkin) [:)] which also need returned to the original colour so will get these done at the same time as the main set.

A few marks but they are in good condition with the detailing fully intact on the rims and no damage to the wheels except a few light chips to the coating when they removed the tyres

Two sets has to be borderline greedy [:D]

I'd love to find a single set myself.

Russ

They were on eBay but were badly advertised so did a deal with the seller as there were no bids [:D]

Glad to help you find them. Partially returning the favour for your help finding the 968 for me. Ps - I drink sparkling water... Nothing too exciting! (I'm a quiet living guy!).

That's what I like a cheap date [:D]

Wheels have already gone off to Diamond Speed Shop in Newcastle to be refurbished and powder coated in Porsche Silver.

They came and collected the spare wheels yesterday morning along with the ones on the car and left my car on 'their' axle stands and are returning on Saturday morning with my wheels with tyres re-fitted and balanced all for £50 per wheel including the centre caps [:)]

Excellent service and a great price if anyone lives in the North East or Cumbria as they look after some of the top Dealerships including Porsche, Aston Martin, Bentley, David Hayton Prestige, Lloyd Motors Group (BMW, Range Rover, Jaguar etc.), JCT600 etc. and are doing over 500 wheels a week

Martin, someone must like driving along the A69 & knows where all the speed cameras are--post, a good excuse to show off your nearly chess board matted garage floor-surely should be entered in -garage of the week--.

However looks a good refurb service.

If you like the floor, here are some when I finished it after extending the garage [:)]

And one with it full of my cars and 'rubbish'

Martin your garage is way too clean. Why not have a gathering at your place and we'll come down and dirty it up a bit for you. I'm sure Frenchy would break out the bbq if I bring a big pack of bacon for him.

P.s. we would actually make it dirty but it sure would look untidy with us lot hanging around.

Very nice garage. Do you have a heater?

A friend of mine added a stove in his in October. Since he also has a two-post lift and all special tools I can tell you this Winter has been one of the warmest/least frustrating I have ever experienced - for example we replaced a 924 turbo gearbox in 2 hours last weekend [:)]

We discussed this last year but never got round to doing it. Will speak to Frenchy and see if we can sort a meet up at mine as there's enough room on the drive for about 15 cars if we park them carefully [:)]

If we can get a few from Scotland, North East, Cumbria and North West would make a good Sunday meet up and BBQ?

No, I have a dehumidifier, but have been looking at stoves just not sure what is the best for running costs.

What type of stove has he bought and what was the cost of it?
