944 stance

CUP 1`s are the only wheels for a 944 in my book.

Originals or aftermarket I still think they are the best wheels ever made.

I am biased but in 17" guise I agree with you Hilux.

Those 16" late offset Teles that Andy has however do look superb as do the rare 928 esque wheels IMO :).

Gullydeckels. My 1988 Turbo should have those as standard (forced option). Unfortunately the VW fanbois have elevated the price and much of what is for sale now has been painted a stupid colour and wears 185/40/16 tyres ffs!

I know it's unpopular, but cars do look better on the wheels they were designed to wear IMO.
Amen, brother!

So nice to find someone who agrees on that. 17inch Cup 1's are lovely and are almost the only exception to this rule.

Oli.

Id like Cup1s. I have 996 C2 wheels in the same size, but theyre a poor substitute. Genuine Cup2s would be alright too, but theyre comically over-valued.

I may be a bit biased, but my S2 sits as nicely as any 944 I've seen. Ride height is v important, and wheels that don't sit too far in the arch

Currently on 8J Et40 wheels (from rear of Boxster and Cayman)

Andy those white teledials looked absolutely brilliant

If the 996 C2s are the same as Boxster wheels I would say that they are possibly a better wheel for the performance enthusiast, being one of the lightest wheels made. But I can appreciate what you mean. Cup II used to be my favourite wheel for a 944 but as you say, cheap they are not these days, and the C2 wheels are not all that different looking if I do not say so myself :).

And lighter too, which scotches the Cup2 myth. Its true that they aren't available in a Cup size for the front, but Im not sure how many championships require this.

Wheels need to suit the body shape 2 truly set the car off. For me the cups are perfection, speed line 3.6 are the best

Other 5 spoke wheels work but more then 5 spokes and things look to busy.

Would put up a pic off mine but can't from phone

Other then that tele dials or d90 looks great when in good nick and correct center caps

I need those 2 tone teledials right now!!!!. Always liked the look of a red 944 with the black/silver rims but dislike cookie cutters. I agree that the dubber dudes have falsely inflated certain parts including rims, scripted handles etc. If they want Porsche parts, why not buy a porsche. A 944 can be had for less than a decent Golf!!!. Anyone got a set of 16s ready for refurbishment????. I also agree that D90s suit the later 944 and I find them a bit plain. Andys 2 tone ones are certainly a huge improvement over mine though.

I have a set of 993 Winter Cups Nick. I bought them ready refurbished and they have languished in the box ever since. Edd Mortimer asked if Id sell, but I wanted to keep hold of them, although I have since bought a couple of sets of Design 90s and Im never going to use them.

I sold a set of rare new race seats a couple of months ago and it wasn't as hard as I expected, so I should probably stop hoarding these too. Theyre 2x 7"x16" and 2x 9"x16" which are Turbo S sizes. The rear will happily take a 225/50/16 tyre too, which mitigates tyre costs.

They looked very smart on Edd's 944, but I don't have a picture to hand.

Thanks for that but I really want to go 2 tone without blatantly copying Andys D90s. My D90s are freshly powdercoated and in great shape apart from a bit of chipping to the fronts where I had to jam a prybar in to get them off because the previous owner forced them on without cleaning the powdercoat out of the centres. Muppett!!! I want to use factory rims with a twist and also want to put a low bridge spoiler on in black to tie the scheme together.

Cup 1's rock but Turbo teledials are magnifico, Fuch 7 x 8 x 16 are Uber cool along with 16" CS Wheels...............let's have a look in the garage, would you believe it a set of each of the aforementioned.

Following your post with interest, although I am confused (not difficult).

I run a 944 square dash and would like to know if I can fit Cup wheels, staggered 7"s & 9"s, I don't understand ET's?

What can I fit instead of Cookies

Best option: Fuchs-a-likes. ET23 for your car and 23mm-10mm Fuchs wheels will be ideal. Genuine later offset wheels will need spacers. Copy Cup1s are available to suit early offset cars, but theyre pretty crap.

That looks fantastic!

I'm guessing those wheels are the rare 52.3 offset 16" teledials?

Can I kindly ask what tyre sizes you are running? Many thanks.

I think that its a mistake to prefix everything rare. This started with the 1986 wheels which were described as rare compared to the later offset wheels, despite being similarly uncommon...

I would go with what Simon said (no pun intended!) TBH. Basically, the smaller the ET, the closer the centerline of the wheel (as in the halfway point of the width of the wheel) is to the face of where the hub meets the wheel. So ET0 will have the centreline of the wheel in line with the hub face of the wheel. ET50 will have the hub face of the wheel away from the centreline towards the the face (outside) of the wheel.

Cup 1s will fit but you will need largish spacers (around 30mm). In your shoes I would look for something with a bit of dish like a Fuchs wheel.
