I know it's unpopular, but cars do look better on the wheels they were designed to wear IMO.
So nice to find someone who agrees on that. 17inch Cup 1's are lovely and are almost the only exception to this rule.

Id like Cup1s. I have 996 C2 wheels in the same size, but theyre a poor substitute. Genuine Cup2s would be alright too, but theyre comically over-valued.
If the 996 C2s are the same as Boxster wheels I would say that they are possibly a better wheel for the performance enthusiast, being one of the lightest wheels made. But I can appreciate what you mean. Cup II used to be my favourite wheel for a 944 but as you say, cheap they are not these days, and the C2 wheels are not all that different looking if I do not say so myself .
Other 5 spoke wheels work but more then 5 spokes and things look to busy.
Would put up a pic off mine but can't from phone
Other then that tele dials or d90 looks great when in good nick and correct center caps

I sold a set of rare new race seats a couple of months ago and it wasn't as hard as I expected, so I should probably stop hoarding these too. Theyre 2x 7"x16" and 2x 9"x16" which are Turbo S sizes. The rear will happily take a 225/50/16 tyre too, which mitigates tyre costs.
They looked very smart on Edd's 944, but I don't have a picture to hand.

Following your post with interest, although I am confused (not difficult).
I run a 944 square dash and would like to know if I can fit Cup wheels, staggered 7"s & 9"s, I don't understand ET's?
What can I fit instead of Cookies
I would go with what Simon said (no pun intended!) TBH. Basically, the smaller the ET, the closer the centerline of the wheel (as in the halfway point of the width of the wheel) is to the face of where the hub meets the wheel. So ET0 will have the centreline of the wheel in line with the hub face of the wheel. ET50 will have the hub face of the wheel away from the centreline towards the the face (outside) of the wheel.
Cup 1s will fit but you will need largish spacers (around 30mm). In your shoes I would look for something with a bit of dish like a Fuchs wheel.
