944 turbo power upgrade

A 2.5 ltr producing over 400 Bhp is not only possible as has been proved on numerous occasions but if well set up will take what ever one throws at it too. Ok so the Le Man's 944 was 16 valves but is was still 2.5ltr, considering that their is no tougher race for a car to take part in and considering that not only did these cars do very well but completed all 24 hrs too it seems to me there is no reason to suspect that there will be any longevity issues with a 400bhp 2.5 ltr. My own car when finished will be over 400 bhp and it will certainly outlive me in that form.

A safe 2.5ltr 400 bhp 944 is not only achievable, it's desirable too.. well it is for me....:)

Since the 16V head flows a lot more than the 2V head, the comparison is out of propos.

An 8V will not live long [:)]

I guess we will have to agree to disagree.....but I will say this, since to achieve 400 bhp one would have had to improve flow rate in the head anyway it's a mute argument.

As Mark isn't here, i'm fairly sure it has done over 20 000 since conversion and a lot of those have been track days.

I ve seen people using the 2.7 8v head. Is this much of an improvement over the 2.5 head ?

Is the 3.0 16v direct bolt on on the 2.5 block ? Is this worth it ?

No, the 2.7l head and the 3.0l 16v head are similar, but both would need adapting in order to fit a Turbo or 82-88 model year block.
