944 Turbo S

It looks like a really nice car, however I'm not sure if the colour scheme is me.

It occurs to me that the 'S' model being sold on ebay is Red but is still advertised as a silver rose. Why is this if the silver rose relates to the colour?

+ Are all silver rose models SE
+ hy were they never badged turbo S like the 911
+ I do like the car on ebay but I agree that £12k is a bit high, particularly as there are newer models under £10k. This seller IS demanding a premium price and from what Fen writes I cant see why. What wuld be considered a reasonable value on this vehicle?
 
Yes, the colour scheme isn't particularly appealing but nor is it the spawn of satan as some would have you believe[;)].

The only cars that can legitimately be called Silver Rose are those with said paint scheme, code LM3Z. My understanding is that there was an initial run in 1988 of c.1000 cars in Silver Rose colour followed by 600+ cars to the same spec but with any exterior/interior trim the customer specified. All of these cars were S/SE (S in the US, SE in the UK). The car you detail on eBay appears to be one of the later non-Rose SEs. From 89 the same basic spec was adopted but the S/SE nomenclature was dropped.

Don't know why they weren't badged 'S', perhaps the colour said it all[:D].

I don't believe that these S/SE models should command a premium over any other 250BHP model unless someone particularly wants to buy into the limited edition nature of the S/SE. Sadly it doesn't look like they're going to appreciate any time soon.

Silver Rose is commonly used to describe a car with the spec of the original special edition. Many people will describe a MY89 or later as a Turbo SE, but they are not the same as the Silver Rose spec as they have the regular windscreen and usually a sunroof. In fact I have heard of SE being used to refer to the MY90 and later cars with leather and bridge spoiler. In the US the Silver Rose was the S, but the limited number of '89 cars before the model was discontinued there were also known as the S so it really refers to the 250bhp cars there.

Personally I tend to use the terminology "220 Turbo", "Silver Rose", "Silver Rose spec" (for other colours of the special edition) and "250 Turbo" for the rest.

Clearly a true Silver Rose is a nice specification for anyone who likes the colour combo, although cloth non-sport seats always seemed a bit odd to me. Personally I wouldn't buy a Silver Rose, but I'd be happy with one of the later cars in another colour. That said they are so similar to the '89 cars that there will never be a premium on them.

The eBay car may be worth £12k to someone, but it's not a car to buy and use in my opinion.
 
LSD was standard on all 250bhp Turbos, so Silver Rose spec cars and all from '89 on. It was an option you can sometimes actually find on 220 Turbos also.
 
It will not be a Turbo S if MY87, MY88 only, also agree with the exhaust answer, the same as others bar the early model downpipes which are allegedly better

There was also different exhaust systems available for certain market areas. For example my son's '87 951 was made for Switzerland. Swiss cars had a smaller resonator damper between cat and rear damper.
 
ABS pump is cycling to test. This is normal. If there is a fault the main warning lamp will illuminate as well as the antilock lamp.

Thank you that makes sense as the antilock lamp comes on as well .Just started it again the whirl was there but the light stayed out so i guess some intermittent fault.

Any ideas ?

ABS relay, is the starting point then the ABS Motor earth

Due to the location of the pump they are very prone to corrosion, its behind the OS plastic arch liner in the wing well a real pita to get at

Thanks for the answers, ill have to check all the points mentioned. I am having a rear wheel bearing done today and the guy said it could be that... i have my doubts but i'll now later

I've replaced the pump on both my cars.

It should self test at 5mph, if everything is well you don't get a light on the dash. If it is doing it when stationary then you're in luck and it may well be a sensor fault. I used to have a guid I found on Rennlist (I think) of what pins to multimeter on the ABS plug to check the sensors. I'd go there first as it is the easiest/cheapest potential fix, then the replay and then the pump.

I hadn't answered as i thought i would see what happened after the bearing was change so far the light hasn't come on so either the fitter was correct in saying he has known them too come on when the bearing goes and says out when changed or just a coincidence but it has stayed off ever since it was changed
