944 Turbo SE - Tuning Help !!!

ORIGINAL: Totty

Please can all advise on which are still safe to fit at current setup ??

All of them, and then set the boost to 18psi and the dip switches in the ECU to the setting for 55lb injectors

I went through all of this when I got my 944T Cab
JMG fitted a dual port wastegate and chips, brilliant add on, went like hell.
Fitted the maniual boost gauge inside the cabin along with a proper pressure gauage
After that, M030 suspension / better brakes are the next best mod, these were already fitted to mine.

Then I started messing with it
LR 340RWHP kit - including
MAF kit, 55 injectors, 65 turbo, chips, Mafterburner.. that give you enough rope to hang yourself, especially without the wideband.
Stage 2 intercooler, Straight hard pipes, catch can located sideways in front of the motor

Then I went 3 litre / 2.7 head (did it all myself) Crossdrilled the crank, lightened the flywheel etc and it transformed the car from a peaky pain in the arse to a fabulous low end torquey car that you could let your mum drive that then turned into a monster over 3000 rpm. I get around 25-just under 30 on a run with it too.
Am contemplating a 3.1 with the 16V head now but not sure what else it will give me, speed cameras and mere mortals in normal cars will just get in my way even more. Being that it's a cab I don't want to track it but it is now the best car I've ever had and I'll never part with it
The 944 turbo is a great car to fiddle with, how far you go depends on how much money you have and/or how much you want to get your hands dirty. None of the engine work is that hard, just be prepared to read and listen to those who have learnt this for themselves, oh and have another car as it will be off the road 50% of the time!

Paul,
I would we nervous of the fuelling, but I don't have an understanding of the ECU dip switches Paul refers to.

Your Promax Chips and 3bar FPR work (I have had them) - no problem.

The Motorsport Pump may slightly increase the fuel delivery at higher rpm, but if the FPR is doing its job, it will make no difference.

55lb Injectors, will totally change things, and if those dip switches are not set right, you have no way of knowing without AFR and Boost measurement.

So, yes, fit everything but if there is a problem - bore wash, scored bores, over-boost, knock or even lean running because you don't know the AFR, ..........
Are you planning a Rolling Road set up to bring all these mods together, or leave all to lady luck?

Robbo, good effort ! what block / piston combo, what ECU?

George
944t

The dip switches for the 55 lb injectors are built into the Promax chippery. You just click the switch to change the map from standard injectors to 55 lb. That's what I have on mine.

He just means the fqs switch on the dme - just needs setting to the correct position for the 55's as per the instructions with the ProMax chipset.

Regards

Graham
