944 wanted

A chap I work with is thinking of getting a 944, having seen my old one. Does anyone know of any good ones for sale at the minute? Budget is around £3k, so a tidy lux would be good. Cat1 alarm, leather, and D90's would all be desirable.

Sadly, he didn't mention it until after I mentioned I'd sold mine... []

Cheers,
Alan

Scuse the fool behind the wheel...it was on a road trip to scotland to pick up the old tvr...

be nice car with a bit of love...

I've posted my Guards Red S2 coupe with air con in the for sale section. Black is so passé, you know, shows all the dirt! [;)]

Sorry, have a red Turbo already. For a daily drive, black attracts far less attention... which is to my liking... and yes, it does show up dirt like no other colour!

You may struggle to find any 944 that isn't a money pit at that price level. Have you considered the 2.0lt (125bhp) 924? less power but a similar car to drive & cheaper to maintain. Good luck with your search [:D]

I'd echo the 924s advice. You're only looking at one of the earliest 944 models at that price, and one that will need a lot of TLC. It'll have the same old-style interior as the 924, same engine etc. The 924s is more car for the money IMHO.

Wher are you Based...?
Come and have a look at My 924S...(944 engine Teledial Wheels)
I see two small children mentioned in your post...You'll struggle to find a Car seat to fit...924/944...

All 924 variants have the same dash as the early 944, you won't know whether the wheel position is a problem unless you sit in one [;)] I'm 6'4" & can't see the tops of my dials even with the later dash so it's probably not going to be a big deciding factor anyway [:D]

The later 944 interior is generally regarded as being better (more modern looking) but neither are a bad place to be. Ditto the looks, whichever you buy there will always be a better looking, later, more expensive version.

Hi everyone,
Many thanks for your advise, the 944 does look good with those arches but as you mention the 924 has the same appeal! as for the two small children they will not be going to the shows in the porsche, thats just for the wife and myself I have a Rover P4 for the full family trips to the shows. Well I'll have to go and think on what to do, a 924S or save up and get the 944. I have heard that the early dash cars steering wheels do not give you much leg clearance I'm 6'3" so would this be a problem?
Many thanks and a Happy New Year to everyone.
Cheers

Small kids in the back is not a problem.

Yes, some (most) booster seats dont fit, but you can find some that do.
I know the "maxi cosi rodi" fit. I had a 911 & also a 924 for a while & it was no problem to fit in either car.
My kids were 3 & 5 yrs. mabye when they get bigger it would be more of a problem.

edit : I;d say at 6'3" you might have a problem in a 924 (dunno about a 944, probably the same).
I'm about 5'10 and although I could get in & out OK, i did have to sit in kinda funny & squeeze my leg across past the steering wheel. mabye a different wheel would help ?

Thanks For the Maxi cosi info..I'm going to source one today..Do you / Did you use it as a Booster seat?

Yes. You can use them with/without the vertical back piece. - It comes offf when you hinge it backways.
I used one with & one without in both a 911 and a 924.

I got mine from quickfit sbs, when I was getting some seatbelts shipped anyway.

I've seen them in halfords - I think the "rodi" bit refers to the colour/pattern of the cloth.

Good luck.

My 83 944 is for sale. Lovely example, loads of mot and tax, best colour too (black). £1200 to someone who can offer it a good home. Its certainly not a money pit, is used everyday and just been serviced.

Hello,
Just let you know that I'm going to look at an early 1983 944 this weekend, that belongs to Punkassmofo.
Hope to have a good look around, it might be the one!
Cheers
