944S2 Brembo front caliper rebuild

ORIGINAL: nick3814

I've read the article on Ricks site which suggests heating them up, I don't have access to a blow torch, do any of you lads have any suggestions??

They should be sealed in with a locking compound so in theory after the application of a lot of heat they 'should' simply unscrew [;)] Without heat you are fighting the glue as well as years of seizure

Dremel a slot in the bolts and use something like a impact driver with a flat head screwdriver bit in the slots.

I replaced mine with stainless bolts with 'normal' hex heads. They needed a bit of a fettle in places to clear the disc but are so much easier to get off for the annual 'remove the aluminium oxide buildup behind the plates' effort.
Spot on on all fronts. Totally agree.

You can heat with a small gas torch - don't need oxyacetelyene kit. I have a small pencil-like torch I use for making creme brulees and small plumbing jobs. That freed up several of my bolts. Just take care not to toast the seals if you have the pistons still in (I know you have removed them, but someone else reading this may not have done.)

Nice to have found someone else to has used standard S/S M8 bolts with the big (normal) heads. They can be made to fit, although you need to file the heads fractionally (yes, fractionally). I have yet to have to remove mine since doing the job, but know it will be a billion times easier when the time comes.

Oli.
