I believe Fen as a prime example why the technical areas of this forum should be available to remote non members. Members gain a great deal from the shared knowledge, and experiences, of Fen and other contributors outside of the UK who, obviously, wouldn't gain much from PCGB membership themselves.
And, to be fair to James,
I came to the 944 fold having made the classic mistake of buying one, then joining the forums. I learned so much in the first few weeks that I decided I liked the guys who posted on PCGB and Titanic, and joined PCGB. I soon found that there are plenty of people who have huge attitudes towards new owners, and the questions that they answered 20 years before. There's a fine line between patronising the new guy who wants to learn, and "discouraging" the people who join the forum thinking they know more than the regulars, but we also need to remember that it's not stupid to ask a question if you don't know it's a stupid question.
What I want to keep here, and I'm sure that most of you agree, is new owners bringing enthusiasm and reminding us of where we started, and the experienced guys passing on their knowledge without being patronising. of course, if someone arrives with the attitude that they've built a really stonking Nova, then fitted an illuminated reflector on their 944, and now feel that they have the right to take over the forum, then they are going to be whacked by the door on the way out.
Soooo [&:]
Why don't we all take a moment to remember why we first bought a 944, why we first joined a forum, and how we can most use our combined experience to help people who are really asking for advice? After all, we were all the noobs once. [&o]
