If your voltage varies then it is most likely your voltage regulator. A classic symptom of your voltage regulator on it's way out is varying voltage output. When mine was on its way out then intermittently the voltage would shoot up - the indash volt meter would go from its usual 12v position to off the scale, the fan would speed up faster than the fastest speed, all the lights (exterior and interior) would go ultra bright. It would be like this for a few seconds before returning to normal. If you get these symptoms you should replace your voltage regulator as soon as possible before the high voltage damages your battery or blows your master fuse.
