944S2 Track Car Project - Spa April 2019

ABS fixed! - last couple of jobs being attended to, should be ready for me to collect tomorrow morning [:D] (credit card in hand.. [:(]) Simon @ ph must be sick of me as I've been phoning him every few hours for updates for the past 3 days...

Ed: in your experience, how hands on is Simon now? I have some work that needs doing but Id like to know that it is Simon actually spannering it, rather than overseeing one of the lads there. Simon

I have no idea, and I don't know how you'd tell. although the main benefit is always knowing where to put the chalk mark... We don't have much (any?) choice for Porsche expertise round here. Getting to zentrum is a nightmare and they expect you to have your own insurance for their loan cars

Some pics from Anglesey

The album here [link]http://s151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/edh2711/944%20S2/Anglesey%202012/[/link] I picked up the car from ph at 11 on Thursday, home to fit the brake ducts, passenger seat and battery. (and pack, and get the car taxed...) All done for 4.30 (once I'd found the V5 ) The car was great - 600 miles over the weekend, 170 on track. 2½ tanks of fuel, ½ litre of oil. With just KWv3 and standard arb's, bushes etc.. I thought it handled really well and was still compliant enough to go for a brisk run across the EVO triangle roads on Saturday. It really is a good clubsport road/track compromise. Balance was good, rear end letting go just ahead of the front. In all I think it is a better car than my turbo for my purposes. You can see the mk1 brake ducts - next step is to put in a piece of plastic across the whole of the fog light opening so that the duct works as effectively as possible.

A piece of coloured polycarbonate might be the answer. Theres a firm in Hull (RED) who sell on eBay too, who are hard to beat for A4 sheet sized peices. Whats happened to your underbidy aero mouldings? I noticed as mine are AWOL too. Simon

Looks very smart (I did see it at PH a week or 2 ago) and nice and flat on the turns. Hope to see it in action soon.

I was thinking maybe I could get a sheet of black Abs plastic. Not sure if they would end up body colour. The mouldings were removed when the os sill was done. I didn't really see any reason to keep them on - is there? They don't look as good with the splitter - they match up better with the std batwing.

Ed. Glad you had a good time. Looks like there keeping Anglesey circuit in fine fettle. Have they started, or even finished , the pit garages yet.? as i had heard they had gained planning permision for them. It looks like a hot day... I bet the tyres were going off somewhat...[;)][:D][:D]

[:D]It was very hot - a mate in an e92 m3 was managing about 5 laps before his tyres overheated.. my car was the least powerful in our group - m3, impreza p1, gt3rs, Mitsubishi legnum (300+ HP v6 turbo). Unfortunately 2 of our party didn't make it....friends in an e36 had their car written off by a vw transporter on the way there, and another in a 997 had his car declared unroadworthy by his opc on Thursday morning - coolant pipes leaking, needing 5k of warranty work! The Ad08's lasted really well - nothing major even after 20-30 min sessions. I was spinning up the inside rear sometimes on the exit of rocket (and the next corner) that was more to do with me being a bit careless I think. The new pit garages are built, just not quite finished. They look good though. I like the circuit - obviously a great location. The run from church to rocket is great - and a real test of nerve to keep your foot in all the way [:D] maybe too many hairpins - but that's a minor quibble

Ed, the car looks great on track and sounds like a nice balanced drive. I really need to get up to Anglesey as it's not that far from me *Runs off to check the PH classifieds for cheap S2s....[;)]

Nick - I really think it might be a better car than my turbo. I think it will keep me happy for a while, and there's far fewer upgrade routes to pursue, which is good. I deliberately didn't set out to build a race car - so leaving carpets in was a good move, as was retaining some compliance in the suspension. 3 point belts make it easier to use - the Sparco seats hold you well enough. The AD08's were every bit as good as people say - so absolutely no need for a second set of wheels/tyres - makes it even easier. I will probably buy a chip, as that's straightforward enough & I also have stiffer springs to experiment with if I ever want to. But I'd rather spend my money on trackdays. We're booked for Spa in October & plan to stay in Nurburg the night before, so we can fit in a few quick 'ring laps as there is a TF session that evening. The car will be very well suited to the 'ring I think Remember there's no such thing as a cheap S2 though - but the track prepped one RPM have for sale looks a belter...like mine only better, with m030 brakes, LSD and half cage. I reckon I won't be far off £5k into mine after all the maintenance & bodywork, so the RPM car looks very good value to me.
