964 anniversary display at Blenheim Palace

As you may be aware, Porsche Club GB is putting on the annual Porsche-fest for 2009 at Blenheim Palace over the weekend of 11/12th July. 2009 also happens to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the release of the 964 Carrera and to celebrate this occasion, as 964 Register Secretary, I would like us to be able to put together a display of 964s never before seen.

Released into an economic climate not entirely unfamiliar to us today, the 964 didn't perform the economic miracle for Porsche "" in fact, quite the reverse, it nearly brought the company to it's knees "" and, because of this, there really aren't THAT many around. Evidenced by the fact that it's almost rare to see one on the roads and VERY difficult to get any sizeable group of them together. In the five years that I have been involved with the 964 community the most I have ever seen together is 25 "" and that was back in 2005!!

What I would like to see for the Blenheim Palace event is an unsurpassed effort to gather at least 100 964s of all varieties together. I can't expect that everyone will want to be there for both days so I have set up a little registration page on Doodle where I would be pleased if you could indicate your willingness to attend indicating which day (either or both) and what type of 964 you will be bringing. The Doodle registration is free and there is no requirement to leave any personal information other than your name. You can access the registration by clicking here. I really hope we can do this. If the German-based 964 Jubilee Register can muster over 50 964 Jubilee cars for their event on 1st May I would feel ashamed if we can't double their achievement

If any 964 owner reading this has not already seen an e-mail from me covering the same subject it means that I don't have a current or valid e-mail address for you or you may not be on the 964 Register.

Please note that ONLY PCGB Members will be joining the display. If you own a 964 and are currently not a member, what better reason could you have for joining??

Regards

Dave

Dave, I fully intend to be there - I have a rare colour combination Tahoe Blue 1990 C4 convertible with blue and cream leather and cream carpets (not the ideal combination but it stood out to me when I bought it!). I haven't had an email from the register, I thought that I had registered when I joined PCGB. Correct email is russwinchester@yahoo.co.uk. Is there any way of checking this? Regardless, count me in! Russ

I am astonished at the level of response we have had for this!! Even after only a couple of days since announcing it we have over 40 people indicating that they will attend. Thank you one and all for your enthusiasm - and please let it continue. If we are going to hit our target of 100 cars we still need a lot more 964s. Regards Dave

I am planning to attend Blenheim Palace this year and am interested to display. I think there is a Florio anniversary celebration at the factory museum at present, so an ideal time to get a few 964 Florios together. It will be great to see all the 964 variants together.Anyone got a 3.8 RS ? [8D]

Dave, What about a 964 owner who's a member of Porsche Club Luxembourg ? My PCGB membership lapsed when I joined PCL. There's also a 3.8RS in the club, and I may be able to persuade the owner to attend. Best Rs, Jon

Current count is 63 over the 2 days. We still need some significant numbers if we are going to approach 100 cars for both days of the Festival. Although 2009 is strictly only the Anniversary for the Carrera 4 - the Carrera 2 came a year later - we are just using the event as a good excuse to gather a substantial number of 964s of all varieties together. This includes RS'es and Turbos too. If you add your name to the Doodle list ([link=http://www.doodle.com/uuftv9funpe6ka3v]click here[/link]) I will ensure you are added to the mailing list and will ensure all cars are provided with a Register Certificate on the day to display in the windscreen (and keep for posterity!). For this it is essential that I have all the necessary details for your car including VIN and engine numher. Where any information is missing I will usually e-mail you soon after you have registered. I will also e-mail eveyone prior to the event to confirm the details. Regards Dave

ORIGINAL: Melv Hi Dave Dya want a 964RS/Cup wing on the display??[;)]
Melv, If it's a 964 celebration event it wouldn't be a true representation of the 964 if we missed ANY variation?? Of course, not only are you very welcome to join in - it completes the range. The only thing I would ask is that I would like all the details, i.e. reg no, VIN and engine number of those intending to be there. I have every intention of producing a "964 Register" Certificate for those attending and it would be nice to do the same thing for the 964RS Register but I obviously don't have access to any of those details. If you could ask those interested to attend to register on the Doodle site (link given above) and I will check with you for the car details nearer the time. Regards Dave

A major lack of Turbo models in evidence so far Dave (1 Saturday 3 on Sunday). Yes it's another few years before the 'blown' 20th B-day, but is that the best we can do ? Come on Turbo owners sort it out.

Seeing as it's the 20 year celebration of the 964, I think it would be a nice idea if the RS and turbo variants joined the display this year instead of having their own display (or perhaps have a display within a display?). [:)]

Dave, First thanks for a great day out on Sunday at Center Gravity sorry I had to leave early, Anyway I have got the bug. Joined the owners club and posted to come bring the car to Blenheim. What do I need to do to get the car registered with yourself? Ian Dawson

Ian, The fastest way to get the information to me is to point your browser to [link=http://www.964uk.com/PCGB.htm]http://www.964uk.com/PCGB.htm[/link] and fill in the details. The data comes straight to me. Regards Dave

Hi, Can anyone tell me if there is any camping/caravaning areas at Blenheim for anyone wishing to stay on the Saturday night, if not any recommendations on local hotels?

And I suspect they are being printed by Adam ( he has a 964 , working in the tee shirt printing business - owns it and pops his car into RPM ).....if his previous quality of shirt/polos have anything to go by, they will good quality . Am I right Dave, is it Adam Daws of Uber9 ?

You arejust too good Ian!! You're absolutely right. Darren suggested I talk to him and he is only too pleased to help out. It helps that Adam and Darren know each other so they've managed to sort out the pricing between them. BTW, his surname is Dawkins, but your guess was spot on. Regards Dave

thought so ....I've used Adam for all my LeMans Polos for the year pilgrimages ....no LeMans this year though.
