964 Celebration - what price?

Colin,

Don't forget that the Turbo body has an effect on the weight - and the weight distribution. For that reason alone the 1470kg Celebration would be different to both the standard C4 (1450kg, narrow body only) and the Turbo (additional engine weight and no front wheel drive).

There would be no reason for all the RHD cars to be built together - and they are, indeed, scattered throughout the assembly run with most being produced in 1993 but there were some in 1994 too. I truly don't understand what Porsche did and there is very little information available from the factory on exactly what was produced, when.

As far as the options are concerned I have a feeling that the RHD cars, at least, had all the options as standard - perhaps with the exception of the Sports seats.

Regards

Dave

Welcome the fold Siraj. Even if it has been a bit unloved up until now, these cars have a great foundation and can be made great with some TLC. I regard my own 964 as one that got rescued from the streets of London that is getting better and better all the time. And with a work colleague like Ian, who really knows his onions when it comes to 911s, you've got a good friend on your side.

Look forward to seeing the pics [:)]

The info I gathered was that the airco, sunroof, sports/normal seats, passenger airbag and radio were options. *edit: you could have optionally a 92 litres fuel tank instead of the 77 litres (inc 10 litres reserve)

The kerb weight is listed as 1500kg, 0-62 mph as 5.7sec, top speed 158 mph or 255 km/h (5km/h slower than the normal body due to worse aerodynamics)
HTH,

Bert

Bert,

I'm pretty sure the 92 litre fuel tank option was only offered on the LHD cars - for the same reason as on the RS. The 92 litre tank will not fit in a RHD car due to some interference with the steering column/pedal box.

Ah, Siraj, you are the lucky owner. I looked at this car about a month ago and inundated Dave with questions by email (sorry and thanks very much Dave!) In the end I decided against getting a 964 for now due to personal financial circumstances but it is a really interesting car that I am sure will be a fantastic ownership proposition.

I just sent you a PM by the way.

PS Finding the dealer is an interesting exercise - I felt like I was on a ransom drop off..."drive to the telephone box 2 miles down the road on the left and I will you the next instructions" :)

James

Thanks for the email and I see you are not accepting replies to PM's....how strange.

The report was blessing and I have to thank Ian for ensuring I did not get carried away and part with my money. Joff is carrying out the majority of the work (and also servicing and taxing it) however did not notice the squeaky fan on the report and did not actually hear it when I was driving the car...

Wish you luck on your future purchase and who knows you may get one of the orginal 911 that were made and not a bright red one like mine ....[:D][:D]

I followed my sat nav and boy what a journey...looking forward to picking it up hopefully within a week..

Kind Regards

Siraj

Siraj - thanks for pointing out that I couldn't receive PM's. I have only just seen the option to enable/disable them in my profile!

The fan was only squeaky at settings higher than 1 (from memory) so unless you played with the controls you might not have heard it. On my test drive it was pretty warm so we had to have the fan on, although Joff did keep turning it off and opened his window instead :)

I had the squeeky fan syndrome on my car when I first brought it, unfortunately it is an expensive fix.

There was a comment on the report about the erratic aircon, which was not present on my test drive. Joff did say he will investigate further so I await the progress report...

Welcome Siraj, and I say this as the owner of an amythyst celebration (from reading above discusion i realise is quite rare!). If you havn't done so already it's definately worth contacting thomas englart who runs the celebration register in germany. He is passionate about these cars and i'm sure would love to know about yours.

Kevin,

I've had long discussions with Thomas about this car and he has, I'm afraid, no interest in it whatsoever. Despite my protestations to him about it being a Celebration in all but badge, he is adamant that "no badge" means "no Celebration" and he will not enter it on the Register.

OTOH, Norbert Franz, who runs the WTL Register DOES have an interest in it and he does have much of the detail about this car. Interestingly, I'm not sure if the red car that's been the subject of this thread actually has the wide body option code/model type and it would be interesting to hear these details from Siraj once he takes delivery.

Regards

Dave

Look forward to updating the mystery of my odd ball. I am sure Ian will be eager to get his oily rag and spanner out when I take delivery. All of the pre sales mechanical work is complete (mystery about finding the corroded transmission pipe...all the engineers could find was a brand new one fitted 400 miles /3 years ago). Off to the body shop for a little spray of the guards red on the front wiper panel....

Again thank you all for your kind words....you are a friendly bunch and may it continue[;)]

Kind Regards

Siraj

Just to give you an update, the car is ready to collect with all the remedial works complete (mechanical work done at Hillcrest) and two new headlights getting installed (delivery tomorrow) from Monday. I have however to fit in Wakefield, Lutterworth, London, Lutterworth, London on my schedule next week so not sure when I could actually pick it up!!

One issue with Finlay Gorham (Joff), although they have got all the documents which I have validated (hpi reports, history, current and previous mot's, previous v5 etc), one thing missing is the V5. Joff bought the car via Simon at Hillcrest Specialist Cars, Nettlebed Henley on Thames (do you know him) as this is where their customer (Mr S Ashby previous owner) had it stored/neglected for sometime. Although Simon and both Joff have been trying to obtain the V5 they are not having much success as Mr S (Simon) Ashby is an airline pilot so hard to get hold off (and probably has little interest seeing he has been paid for the car)

Worst case scenario Joff is prepared to request a duplicate V5 on Mr S Ashby's name at Finlay Gorham address thus not adding another owner, or I could request a new log book (although I have not suggested it)

What are you thoughts on my next steps before I hand over my hard earned savings.

Siraj

Siraj - Not the answer you want to hear but IMO, no V5, no sale. I am really surprised Joff hasn't got the V5 - he has had this car for months. It all sounds a bit dodgy. The previous owner won't be that hard to get hold of - I know lots of pilots and they have more spare time than the rest of us! And how does Joff prove ownership if hasn't got the V5? He should have taken his part of the V5 when he bought it. I am not suggesting Joff isn't above board - he struck me as a thoroughly decent bloke - but this is an odd position to be in. I would hand no money over until he has a V5, in his name, with his current address or business address on it.

Sure not the answer I want to hear, however done some digging and the previous owner has some internet history on http://www.motorportal.com/964%20registry/964_gallery_11.htm#Simon%20Ashby and I have emailed him to find out where the V5 is and some history. He is a tech/owner for a car diagnostic equipment company diagnostic techniques (where is the pilot??)

Joff did say he was going to visit and pick up the V5 and should have got that when he purchased the vehicle. Hindsight is a wonderful thing....

Should I ring up Hillcrest who did the early mechanical works (£4k's worth) and seemed to have stored this car for sometime where it attracted Joff's attention to purchase. They also have done the current remedial work on the car even though it is 130 miles away from Finlay Gorham (however this is where Joff is originally from)

I suspect that the car is involved in a debt mitigation considering it has been abandoned for some time, however I could be totally wrong.

Does anybody know Hillcrest??

Does anybody know Hillcrest??

Siraj

The name rings a bell, I seem to remember they used to do work for Michael Ticehurst whom I brought my S2 off (over 12 years ago, blimey!).

He did one or 2 things for me under warranty on behalf of Ticehurst, though nothing too technical. At the time when I brought it the car was only 6 or 7 years old, so I had any ongoing work/servicing done at OPCs.

Hillcrest are still in the Porsche servicing business, based in High Wycombe area, and Joff's previous business connections over there explain the relationship.
If it has been taken in settlement of a bad debt there is a set procedure to legalise it, and it pays to ensure that it has been followed correctly.

Good News...Previous owner has been in touch and is waiting for a cheque from Hillcrest whom he has no issues with, he will be forwarding the V5 on Monday to Joff....phew what a relief. He confirmed that it has been sat at Hillcrest for almost 3 years and other priorities have taken over his abilitiy to run the 964!! Did say it is possibly the only "Red" Celebration in the UK and possible the only one made?

Right better start making some noise on getting some insurance sorted...and Ian you aint disappearing to a track run on your own now!!

Siraj

God willing will be picking up the 911 this Saturday!!

Just got off the phone from Haggerty's insurance...quoted £330 ...40 year old agreed value. I have however one car mid Nov to insure and one mid December to insure...boy Oct, Nov & Dec renewals!!

Any final tips on insurance....
