964 RS For Sale

ORIGINAL: pazzer

.....and theres no reason that next year they might drop to that amount again,

Highly unlikely........Des will make sure of that![;)]

I like Pazzers optimism.[;)] I have had the same view myself with the 2.7 RS i remember "a few years ago" you could pick em up for 30k The market can only take so much and if I wait.............. well maybe next year they could be at 30k again.

The parity between the 2.7RS and 64RS are huge thus the 64 is a far safer bet with short term appreciation to go, would be nervous with a 2.7RS at £100,000++++

I think the market has already topped out (at least in the short term) for most classic Porsches. I wouldn't expect values to completely collapse, but I think the boat has already sailed for anyone thinking of buying a 2.7RS or 964RS as an "investment". The former was a sound investment at £50K and the latter was a sound investment at £25K, when they were both clearly undervalued compared to equivalent Ferraris, Astons etc. It would be very naive to simply extrapolate recent rapid price rises into the future.

This is probably more the time for anyone who did invest at the lower prices to seriously consider cashing in their chips. So selling a 964RS does make a lot of financial sense right now. The people buying them at today's prices are extremely unlikely to make any profit in the next 5-10 years. Just my opinion.

Your analysis has a serious flaw, It relies on a falsehood. Very few people have bought 964RS's as an investment. 964RS owners bought the cars because of how they drive, the purity of the experience. In addition, people aren't comparing 964RS's with Astons or Ferraris.

While I certainly wouldn't expect the 964RS's to show the best growth in the collectable car world over the next 5-10 years, I also find it very hard to believe that there won't be any growth. I do think that track focused classics will continue to be in demand as people who have been tracking seriously expensive modern cars look for a purer experience. And when it comes to track focused classics, the 964RS is the one all the pundits are talking about. I believe that there is a whole new audience who have yet to discover the cars and when they do, we will see further growth. Maybe not at the same rate, but growth never the less.

So long as we are enjoying driving them, what does it matter ?

The one certain way to lose money, is to buy and use a new car ....

There is a level of involvement in the driving of these cars which a whole new audience is about to discover --- encouraged by increasing motoring legislation.

They are becoming motoring icons.

What can you buy at this performance level for £25k ? £35k ? £45k ? Ignoring the engineering and design qualities and the provenance of the Marque.

What are competent replicas bringing ? Even a C2 conversion to RS is £35k. And a pukka RS from 9M or Autofarm woiuld be pushing £50k.

Maybe values will fall, maybe they won't, but I for one will not be worrying about it.

Read my lips ..... [:D]

That´s what the whole congregation does, Holy Preacher Desmond!

P.S.: They were asking 95 k EUR for the red RS incl. German VAT. You can see it here

http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=687376

in Ferry Man´s post left of the 993 RSR.

red 964 RS in Essen (Techno Classica).

I have also seen the red 964 RS in Essen. The same company is trying to sell this car since mid of last year.

But this year they are asking 3K more than last year for that car. Maybe the dealer would like to compensate his interest rates with the added Euro amount.[;)]

Sometimes I really would like to know what prices will be paid within the 964 RS market in the real world.

cheers
Marcel
