964 RS Spec

Just looked (Melv makes note -must put heating in garage...)

"and the cup car is a different animal again"

How do you mean Laurence? -has the same cage as the Clubsport.

Rear seat area still has holes, some with plates over, for rear seats and front seat belt mounting.

Doesn't look as though all seams welded as both edges visible across front of where rear seats would be.

What I mean Mel is the cup cars (at least the early ones) were based on standard shells (as far as I know) . So do the cup cars have the back seat fixing but no carpet? Club sport based on RS so no seat fixing ? All subjective I suppose.

Not one to dig up the seam welding debate again, but.......

Just revisiting Adrian Streather's book and there are three pages of diagrammes as to where to locate seam welds and other differences on an RS. So, see pages 325-327.

Jim -there appears to be very little reading matter available to cover the RS/Clubsport/Cup Car scene, but would highly recommend Adrian's book anyway as to a better understanding of the 964, and it's derivatives.

I have not seen the book so can't comment on those diagrams. However Adrian did send me some diagrams when he was making the book. As best as I could make out they were on how to convert the rear section to RS / clubsport spec. Having read the article on JM's site I'm now of the opinion that the car is seam welded in places for additional strength anyhow. I think that's been put to rest. Though I still think it's a marginal call to say the welds were introduced to build strength into the whole chassis, more correctly I feel they were done to support the modified rear trailing arms and rear section. But they are there end of story.
The book is or should be required reading, one day I will purchase it.
