Think that means I win..Got to say a Porsche 911 without leather is never going to be popular...993 has got to be a save bet on values
How long have you owned the 964?...A mean bid I would admit especially since all 911 prices have hardened in the last year or so.

Unlike 993s, the value of used 996's has softened not hardened , much more like used BMWs or Mercs , probably because many more are available on the market.
Lets face it , Porsche 911s are expensive and if you want to keep up to date on the model front then you have to be prepared to pay market price. FWIW , I dont think the 993 offers enough over the 964 to justify the extra.

I sold a 98S 993 C4 S with 6000 miles about 3 and a half years ago for 50K, that car would still be worth that today and reckon it'll be worth more in another 2 years.
You have to pick your model carefully. The 964 will probably be worth more as time goes by. MY 964 RS has increased in value to the tune of 9K in the 4 odd years that I've owned it.
Last year I had an 1981 carrera that I struggled to get 8k for...today you cant find them for that money....unfortunately for some I cant see the 996 going the same way.

I had an offer of £13k today from a local dealer chap, told him I was thinking of selling and what I had been offered and he said no prob and offered me the above, so I know the car has some value and you know it will be on his forcourt for around £17k.
He does the service and looks after it so he knows the car.
I did a search on the Autotrader and you cant get a 964 C4 for less than £16k
I was hoping for around £15k to do the trade in so in answer to the question I would let it go for £14k-15k
I need to get down and see the 993 firsts to make sure its worth the agro of selling a car that I know for one that I don't.
Are you ineterested Lee I'm in Peterborough.

996 is nice but as as suggested, a Porsche for the mass market along with the box. All nice cars but not for me!
993 seems like the best one, 6 speed, air bags, stuff sorted out by prosche - nice. i want one bad!!!

My point is..... I got a significant £3.5K more than my highest trade-in offer but you have to weigh up the pro's and cons! I think the offer you've received is way too low and you should be able to get a bit closer to the amount he'll put it up for.

My 964 experience was decent - paid £16k in Oct 2000 for an 82k miles tiptronic. Seller was in a hurry and PPI indicated a £1500 spend on wishbones, oil pipes, brakes & service. Sold 3 months ago for....£15.5k. Depending on whether you view my purchase price as £16k or £15.5k, I've 'lost' £500 or £2k in 3.5 yrs and 24000 miles of BRILLIANT ownership.
to put things in perspective, an OPC offered me £11k for the car against a £57k GT3! - it was a deal breaker!
If you are hung up about the depreciation, keep th e964. The looks different, but drives virtually the same anyway - its not like you're moving into a TT or anything markedly different. If you want to maximise your position, sell the 964 privately and then when you have the cash in your hands, buy a 993 privately.

Within the last 2 years (rahter unfortunately) I've had to have my engine rebuilt, new heat exchangers, new brake disks/pads, a new ECU and a new clutch.
If I went in search of a 964 I worry that all this could need doing again. Also, when I think about how much I would get for my car and what I would need to pay for a 964 it almost becomes a cost prohibitive exercise.
