911PW are doing an article on Porsche lightweights and have the following questions -any answers??

Melvin,
[FONT=verdana, geneva"]As discussed, need to check up on 964RS figures. I've read that there were six or seven Tourings produced and have managed to find photos of three and have heard of a fourth

As far as I know correct 2047/2051 cars produced in every variant the Touring was not available to the German Market and yes 6 RHD Touring cars only for the UK....

Touring had the whole C2 Spec minus rear seats........strange one neither one thing or another really suppose harks to the modern day RS badged cars....as far as I am aware only available in RHD........Krauts not interested......only 6 UK cars they do have the the blueprint engine and suspension BUT everything else is C2.....!

Not quite everything else is C2

According to Peter Morgan in "Original Porsche 911" the Touring version (M002) had central locking, sound proofing, electric windows, sports seats with height adjustment and C2 door panels. It has the mag wheels and the aluminium bonnet, thinner side glass, the under bonnet master switch and the full 10 year body warranty.

I believe they had the dual mass flywheel originally, although mine now has the RS clutch and flywheel and as far as I can tell it drives like the only lightweight 964RS I've driven, but is RHD which is what I prefer in a road car.

Correct Paul....dual mass flywheel mag wheels........allegedly C2 non-seam welded Cup Car Chassis........fantastic car.....but if you want an RS why all the electrics weight etc etc.....think it also had the standard C2 Gearbox..heavier wiring loom...obviously power steering.....undersael thus 10 year guarantee...soundproofing.....etc.........

I wanted a RHD car and all the lightweights were ÂŁ8000 to ÂŁ10000 more. I couldn't justify spending the extra money. Although I bought it from Paul at GT Classics it was known to Crispin Manners at Oaktree Garage who was able to give an unbiased opinion on its condition. I'm delighted with it.

You have a bargain Paul don't get me wrong it ticks all your boxes and if you paid 8K less than a lightweight RHD you have done really well I would guess you bought it a while back is it the Maritime Blue car....?

No its silver.I bought it from Paul last January. Its done a high mileage for a RS (108K) but has had a lot of money lavished on it including a glass out respray. I knew the previous owner through PCGB when he lived near Exeter (he'd owned it twice- swopped it for a 993RS and then decided he preferred the 964RS and got it back) and Crispin was able to give an unbiased verdict on it.

It was originally owned by the keyboard player in Dire Straits (Alan Clark) who put in a special order for it apparently...

RHD Tourings. I've also heard figures of 6 or 7. I've seen the Midnight Blue one, the Amithyst one, the Maritime one the Black one and the Silver one. So can confirm definately at least 5.

Regarding this 002 thingy for the Tourings, I'm not sure thats correct, but didn't want to pick on the article when it came out because Peter was kind enough to give me a mention. Anyway I thought the Tourings were 007 option. Paul please check your sticke under your bonnet and right at the bottom after the UK code C16 should be either a 002 or 007 for the Touring spec.

it says "C16 587 573" and someone's written in pencil in the handbook M6403 on the other copy of the label
Paul

Thats strange. Porsche normally list the option codes in ascending order in a very typical Germanic organised style. 573 is the air con option. Is the other code definately 587?

If the sticker has neither 002 or 007 then the code will be embedded with the standard codes for that model. Only way to get those is an enquiry with Porsche against their database. When you do this you always get a larger list of codes other than the ones on the sticker. The sticker options are normally the customer specified extras over the base spec, which is slightly at odds with the Clubsport cars, which always include the 003 option on the sticker.
