Yes, spot on. Nick_968 has created an exact reproduction with his 968 Turbo built by SimonP. Same block, head, rods and pistons - then he went and spoiled it with a full MOTEC standalone and bigger intercooler and exhaust [8D]

Sure, I'd hate someone to 'spoil' my car in that way too...[:D]
 
The trouble is that even the later Turbos are laggy.

So if you are looking for linearity and responsiveness, naturally aspirated may be a better option.
 
Chris, when you refer to a later turbo do mean the 3.0 8v turbo as these are very rare, and if you have ever been in one they are not laggy at all. The factory version came with only a slightly bigger turbo than the 944 and made 369 lb/ft at 3100 rpm. A 3.0 turbo off boost is has very little different in response than a 3.0 naturally aspirated version except when the turbo kicks in you have an extra 100+hp.
 
Nick, I show my ignorance in this respect.

But I am talking about all? Turbos --- including the 996 and 997 911 versions which to me are simply big GT's ...

Never driven a GT2.

Somebody obviously thinks that the real thing is worth far more than trying to build your own ?
 
No, they're 8v. Circa 300bhp I think? It's a beauty, and at £50k is really a bargain if you consider you'd pay almost that for a good 993 turbo and this would be a far better track car and was built in very limited numbers.

And to think i could have bought 968 Turbo RS number 4 for under $65k 5 years ago! One of the many cars that i "nearly" bought. Would have been a millionaire by now if i had bought them all! [:D]
