981 Cayman Launch

One thing I did notice - there are now only a couple of bars in the front grilles and you can get your hand inside to pick out leaves and debris. A double-edged sword of course - it means that large objects potentially could get through and wreck the coolers..! Still no sign of grille guards , even on the option list. Jeff

True, but there are what I think of as "Blinkers" which blank off the straight ahead impact from a large amount of the Radiator/Condenser front face, however the inner section of the intake does have a face which could deflect items within the intake. Maybe it will prove better, we hope.

Unfortunately had to miss my opportunity of seeing the new car at Reading this week due to work (wishing I had winning lottery ticket more these days) [:)] Has anyone any piccies of the cars?

981 Cayman looked good in the metal. Can I fault it? No. Is it closer to the 991 in stature? Yes. Is that a good or a bad thing? Can't be 'bad' thing but who cares as long as it gets a fair crack by Porsche and so far it has! Like others have said, getting some of the plastic bits painted would finish it off nicely for me, as per the pics on Porsche Exclusive. Sorry, the pics cannot be linked - some rotating pics at the top of the first 2 links and some close-up shots on the next 3 links. http://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesandservice/personalisation/exclusive/cayman/cayman-c7s-cognacmetallic/ http://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesandservice/personalisation/exclusive/cayman/cayman-c7s-platinsilbermetallic/ http://files1.porsche.com/filestore.aspx/zoom.jpg?pool=multimedia&type=image&id=exclusive-cayman-c7s-platinsilbermetallic-05&lang=none&filetype=zoom&version=7b3b41eb-93fb-4da2-b77d-cce8f29a618c http://files1.porsche.com/filestore.aspx/zoom.jpg?pool=multimedia&type=image&id=exclusive-cayman-c7s-cognacmetallic-05&lang=none&filetype=zoom&version=9ca8aa0c-a255-4c84-81c6-6fcb76a260e6 http://files2.porsche.com/filestore.aspx/zoom.jpg?pool=multimedia&type=image&id=exclusive-cayman-c7s-cognacmetallic-06&lang=none&filetype=zoom&version=1070ccd5-cd94-4aec-bef9-bd689331ceb8

How do you feel on price then? At Bristol last evening the mahogany coloured car started at Ă‚ÂŁ48K and ended up at Ă‚ÂŁ72K with the extras. [8|] Regards, Clive.

They had a white car at Guildford and the black looks good in contrast to the white for the front and rear plastic bits. I agree the mirrors and side intakes would look better in body colour and will look into this after my car arrives. Chris

nice though the mahogany one looked that is one of the reasons linda decided it was better to go for a lightly used 991 Clive

This mahogany Cayman S seems to be doing the rounds, it was at Hatfield and Guildford. I dont think the colour, spec and price is at all representative of what the average Cayman buyer would go for. Some of the options selected were completely crazy, IMO. I have spoken to a few buyers and the highest I found was ~60k. Its a pity this car seems to have put some people off the new model in favour of the 991, which is certainly more "GT" than the Cayman is Sports car (with a roof).[;)]

To be fair Linda loved the mahogany cayman but is a bit fed up having 2 schnauzers on her lap whenever we go out in the box(as was in the cayman) so is rather keen to have seats for the doggies in the back so she can travel unencumbered:) plus she likes the big sunroof Personally,I will be quite happy to get back in a 911

Went and had a look at some pics of white cars. Can't argue with that ChrisH. In white it does indeed carry off the black bits as 'accents'. Despite what I said, thinking about it again, I wonder if Porsche doesn't paint the air intakes as standard as that's the area where the paintwork is likely to show signs of use. I know with the 987, around the side air intakes can get a bit untidy. Maybe they use that plastic in the air intakes as the better option for those who will use the car more than look at it, and those who will look at it more than use it can opt to paint it. Just a thought - I may be totally wrong. (Not painting the door mirrors is just plain naughty of them though IMO [>:] ) Some pics of white cars with bits and bobs unpainted.

Enjoyed the Cayman launch here in Glasgow last night, another good bash provided by the OPC. Plenty of potential customers in attendance. Believe the cars are as previously described elsewhere on this thread so not much to add except - yes- why are there no grille guards?? after all this time you would think Porsche would have had added them, or even computerised them with motorised slats? Before I forget - there's nowhere to put yer phone. Ok, lots of the cars might have the phone option spec. but we all still carry a slim brick and there is nowhere convenient to put it. The daft coin tray doesn't work. I recently drove a Panamera and despite the enormous acreage of console the complaint was the same. Perhaps they don't use mobile phones in the Fatherland. Concluding, my wife liked the car so I'd better start saving!

I agree that the black trim provides a good contrast to the white. I'm not sure that I'd want the side intakes painted white - the black has the effect of emphasising the scalloped doors - but I'm thinking that I prefer the painted front grilles which make the front end less aggressive. Although white appears to be the colour of choice currently, it'll be interesting to see the car in the flesh with other colour options. Pity they made a rather poor job of the door handles. A flap integrated with the cut-line would have been a much neater solution. Jeff

ORIGINAL: flat6 Can the club not help with questions that we ask over and over? Don't they have access to someone in Porsche Cars GB or Porsche AG who they can put simple questions to on behalf of paying members. If there's a good engineering reason let's hear it. I'm not saying Porsche should answer hundreds of questions but can the club put forward popular questions, say, a couple of questions put forward every 6 months? Porsche can always choose not to answer certain questions and the club wouldn't put forward anything inappropriate or outside the scope of what is agreed.
As a customer, you will probably have more clout than the Club. Why don't you try writing to Customer Services at Porsche HQ Reading? You never know, you may get somewhere and be doing us all a favour! [:)]

Mahogany seems to be the current trend-setter. [8D][:D]

HEAR, HEAR..! I think that you should raise this point in a separate post for maximum exposure. But if someone in authority is reading this, would you care to comment? Jeff

Actually, I raised the point to my OPC about a month ago due to another thread where we were discussing the problem of leaves and stones, the damage they can do and so the acceptance of fitting grilles. The enquiry was passed on to Reading and I am still waiting for a reply.[:D]
