981 common reliability issues?

Thanks for the link, Daryl! I've seen a couple of your other vids, but hadn't come across that one.

Very good content. One thing I'd like to ask about; you mentioned at the end about keeping the battery in good condition. Makes sense. But then you say a battery replacement would require encoding by an OPC. What's that in relation to?

Here is a video I made, detailing some suggestions that you can do as preventative.

Hope it is useful.

Nice to hear thanks. If the car is fitted with an intelligent battery sensor then the car will know a worn battery needs more juice than a newer one to maintain its charge. You wouldn't want to install a new battery and for the car to overcharge it and reduce its operating life.

Another reason is to let the cars systems know if you fitted a battery with a different output.

Darryl, another subscriber here to your youtube output. Very helpful and informative videos, one of the reasons I am looking at an X73 setup for my Boxster. Keep the content coming on there.

My car came back today after 5 weeks away at the specialist. Brexit is really hitting parts imports now in NI, 5 to 7 days for a part is now standard. New PDK shifter fitted, new porsche crest armrest, new cooling fan, spoiler alignment, wheel allignment, exhaust gaskets and bolts replaced, brakes replaced all round and roof fault issue sorted.

I'm fussy about my car so this wasnt all essential but it's done now and I'm ready to enjoy spring and summer. Got home and had no working blower for the heating, few checks online, got my hand down into the fan, spun it manually to free it up and we are all good to go. Happy man tonight.

Nice to hear again thank you, i'm waiting on parts now too for my next project/video - what a pain!

Nice job getting all that work done now is the best time I guess. The fan issue is ridiculous but glad we have an easy fix.

:)

Pretty much the simplest fix I have ever had on any car Darryl. Seems Porsche may have brought an improved fan out that is a permanent fix so I might investigate that the next time it goes in for work.

Keep us posted for when the next video goes up for the new project. Hopefully it's a DIY guide to a 3.8L engine swap [8D]

Cheers Daryl for info about the battery management system. Didn't know that!

I think the fan thing is real silly for a Porsche. But who doesn't enjoy putting their hand in a spinning metal mincer now-and-again? []

My 981 it’s due a major and asked my local OPC for a quote. Came back £914:38 inc of vat. So phoned a well respected Indy and quoted £408.37 inc of vat. Then phoned local OPC and they revised there quote to £752 which really annoyed me. Then asked them to quote for new battery. £373:12 fitted. Phoned Indy £279:60 and I’ll fit it for free during service. So do the maths. Going with Indy using all genuine parts for major plus battery saves £437.15. Keeping it in warranty for me is just a no go due to the incredibly over inflated prices of OPC when maintaining in my case an 8 yr old 981. But just my opinion of course

I had another one of my cars into my Indy yesterday, just for a set of tyres, went and sat in the waiting room and the owner wanders on for a chat about a 1970s 911, then one of the mechanics pops on to check if I want a cup of tea or a biscuit. Work done while I waited and off home again. It's this sort of thing that keeps me supporting my indy porsche specialist.
