981 perspex/acrylic wind deflector

Has anyone found a good source for the replacement of the mesh wind deflector to a perspex/acrylic one?

I have found one on ebay, not a factory part for £70

I bought my 987 with a clear perspex wind deflector.
My 981 has a mesh wind deflector and whereas the rear view via the mirror, I would say is very little difference, the difference in cabin wind buffeting is definitely more noticeable with the mesh one.
Hence why I posed the original question.
Haven't taken the plunge yet to order one.

I have to say I'm delighted with mine. It's made of heavy toughened glass and is precisely the right thickness to fit in to the existing rear grille mount without any further adaptations required; the fit is firm, secure and there are no rattles. Glass always favourable over acrylic as it doesn't scratch or mark (you do pay for it mind). Improved visibility was the main for buying as was reduced wind noise. I'm very happy - should be a standard fit in my opinion. The irony is if you had to by the standard mesh wind guard from an OPC it would probably cost the same as the after market option. I paid less than half the 'new' price but, having tried it, I might be tempted to now!

I've just had one made by taking the original mesh screen into a perspex shop. Relatively inexpensive. I haven't tried fitting them yet, but I may have a spare... [:)]

Would be interested to see if it fits and what thickness you made it in .A TIPEC member can do one in special etched glass but would need a template that fits if you want to sell the template I would be interested and could get a cost for making glass one s for other owners .

Sure will try fitting it tonight and let you know. It is 5mm thick, which might be a bit tight.

I had thought about doing the very same thing making a wooden template from the original mesh unit and then getting a perspex or glass one made.
Would the glass need to be toughened of some sort as opposed to standard glass?

No you definitely don't want sharp pieces of standard glass anywhere around your neck area if it gets hit by a stone...

Sorry about the delay; here are the pictures of my cheap 5mm perspex windbreak. Nicely cut from the original mesh screen. It just needs a little cut out at the base where the original "wiggles". It is quite a tight fit into the gap, but does go in with a bit of bumping with the bottom of your fist. If anyone wants to buy my spare, they can have it for £25 posted. It will fit both the 981 and the 718.

How would you like to send me the old template ...as said before can get them made up in safety glass but would need to send the template to my maker for costings can also do the Perspex /Lexin as well .Would do a cost deal for forum owners +pp

I didn't do a cardboard cut out. I just took the original mesh screen to the fabricators and told them what I wanted.

I have one of ur-windschotts high deflectors, very happy with it but it was quite expensive for a piece of tempered glass.

My local glass suppliers did a similar screen for our MX-5 for under £40 in tinted tempered glass.

Made a few based on the mesh original as a template with some 4mm perspex. I modified one of the with mounts for the go pro front and back mounts.
Its also possible to fit perspex in the original mesh frame. See Boxa net forum.
