981 S 19" Tyres

AlistairF said:
Thanks Jeff, but the originals are 40s and the manual (and tyre pressure sticker) confirms this (no 35s listed apart for 20" wheels)...

Well, that's most odd Alistair - my 2009 987.2 came on 35 profile tyres with the 19" wheels. It looks as though spec was changed for the 981-series?

Jeff

Taking Porsche at their word both profiles are on the list I received for a Boxster 981 S with 19" wheels (dated 2013). I find it hard to believe my car has the wrong tyres, manual and sticker... and my indicated speed is pretty close to my Google maps speed. The 35s on this basis might over-read on the speedo (unless there is something in the software...) and give lower gearing (hooray !!) More wine required.

Hi Alistair, just had a look on a tyre specification site and the difference between 40’s and 35’s on your tyres would change the indicated to actual speed by about 3-4% so would not be really noticeable until you were at 3 figure speeds.
The main thing that might be noticed is the 1/2 inch change in wheel clearance and ride height.
i don’t think it will make a huge difference to handling, but I may get proven wrong, by a track day specialist.

Understood. My 981 is definitely 40 profile. Speedo vs Google maps confirm accuracy.
Still no explanation as to why Porsche list both 35 and 40 as suitable for a 981 on 19" wheels though.
