981 Spyder Anyone Selling???

I gave up worrying about the new one and residuals. It seems a lot of other Porsche forums are full of of people wasting time worrying about the value of their cars instead of driving them. I didn't get much off as my 2 perfect spec cars went a few days before I bought this one. One at Cardiff OPC & the other privately. As you know there are only around 200 cars in the UK. I think 100 of those will be keepers so the chances of finding your ideal spec & price in the handful that are available is not great so i just had to take the plunge and get this one and I am not disappointed. I got 2 years full warranty & a Silverstone experience thrown in too.

The new one will also be limited, say around 200 again. They won't be available till winter or early 2020. When they do arrive 100 or so will be keepers. If 20% of the rest decide to flip that's only 20 cars, you can bet most will keep for Spring 2020 to at least use for 1,000 miles of fun. That means the new one will be in short supply and at overs till at least summer 2020. If the projected price is approaching £85k with options then with overs we will be looking at close to 6 figures. That should keep residuals firm on 981's, IMHO, not that I'm too bothered as I intend to put some miles on anyway, life is to short to just look at it :)

I like the logic. I have almost doubled my car mileage since buying in April. You could be in with a shout at a new one having just bought an old one if you tried. Although I am not sure a few more HP will be worth the £10-15K extra and I don't need it any faster. The sound cannot be improved IMHO. Only improvement I can find would be a slightly shorter gear ratio on 1st/2nd to get into the good noise range before exceeding the speed limit. Here's to a summer like the last one.

So I bought one 2 weeks ago from Wilmslow OPC. Very good spec, white, 7,800 miles, folding buckets, contrast stitching, extended leather, 64L tank, PCM & nav, camera, sound+ & full AC. Loving it, sounds epic & sooooo lovely to drive :) Can't wait to get it to the Alps!
Lovely car! Good spec too - enjoy!

Recent European legislation has banned exhaust valve buttons. Not sure what Porsche have done about this but I just bought a new Lotus 430CUP as well and it sounds like a Telsa below 4,500rpm. Above that the valves are allowed to open and all hell breaks lose. Luckily Lotus have kept all the wiring for the button in the loom so ts an easy fix that I am having corrected next week. New Porsche's will not sound like the older ones that's for sure and I am certain a German manufacturer as large as Porsche won't be leaving the wiring in their loom.

"Directive 70/157/EEC introduces limits on the sound levels of noise for road vehicle and gives requirements for measuring sound levels and exhaust systems and silencers. Several amendments, the latest by Directive 96/20/EC, have reduced these permissible sound levels. Limit values for eight types of passenger and goods vehicles range from 74 dB(A) to 80 dB(A). It applies a system of optional harmonisation to the approval of motor vehicles and exhaust system. The Member States may not refuse to grant EEC or national type-approval to vehicles which meet the requirements of the directive"

Currently in the UK you can be fined £50 (at the police officers discretion) if your exhaust is over 90db but I have heard there are much stricter fines for the new legislation on cars built form mid 2018 onwards.

Interesting! Really? How many Police carry dB meters? I thought it was just Knightsbridge they were clamping down on the Aventador posers in the summer. Bet your neighbours love you with a Spyder and 430 Cup!

You bought one so a bit late to the table ..a private sale sapphire blue is on PH at £69.500 know the car and its first owner and has Porsche warranty till 2021 +full service history .My car sold for over £69k by the way and if you add on a new warranty its value is closer to £72K ...I know the new owner is very pleased with his purchase and doubt he will loose any money on his purchase even when the new model is released .Enjoy your car and use it unlike I did with mine .

So much on here about the new cars and residual values of both 987 and 981 Spyder. Lets face it if you get a LOI in and get accepted, when specking an order for the 781 Spyder you will be lucky. I doubt when you place your order you will get answers to many questions. I didn't when ordering my 981. Try asking. "How many of these will be produced for the C16 market?"
That question must be the one that will determine for future value of your new car. Where would the value be of previous Spyders be if they Porsche had made five thousand of each instead of a couple of hundred?

Any investment made is two way, enjoyment of ownership and £SD. By far and away the most important the first one, enjoyment!

Looks like a very nice Boxster Spyder coming up for sale on Pistonheads in PTS under the Boxster Spyder thread.
Cheers Cliff.

If anyone is looking for a highly spec'd, low mileage Spyder I have just posted mine on the club website. Will be sorry to see it go but needs must. Its Carrara white with only 3350 miles and I have just put 2 yr Porsche warranty on it. Its been pampered and garaged when not in use and not tracked.

I’m after a 981 Spyder at the moment, not a member on here as I’ve not had a Porsche... yet!
not sure how I can access your sale post, is it for sale anywhere else?
Thanks
Adam
