986 Boxster options list codes - HELP!

chrono

New member
Having just bought a 986, the Guarantee and Maintenance book on page 4 has the vehicle identificaton sticker that should provide all the details about the car.

Point 5 is the optional equipment provided on the car from new. Some have been identified, but there are five option codes not even the Porsche Centre who originally supplied the car can identify.

They are:
139
197
340
981
983

Does anybody please know what these translate to? I do not have the original invoice so I can't refer to that and it's a mystery that I can't get anyone in Porsche (two centres and GB tried so far!) to help.

Also, does anyone have an original price list for a 1999 986 that includes the price of the options. I'd like to know what was supplied and how much in total the original car was.

The reason? Simply because I adore the car and want to know everything I can about it. Sad? You betcha!

Cheers

Chrono.

139 Heated Seat Left
197 Higher amperage battery (you get this will Porsche sound system plus or Bose sound system)
340 Heated Seat Right
981 All leather lining
983 Leather seats

Cheers for the quick response. The higher ampage battery is a little odd, as only a CD player was put in, not the Bose system.

...but is it the Porsche sound system plus (not basic Porsche sound system)? Do you have speakers and subs in the door? The higher amperage battery goes in for Auto Climate control too (I think)... in any case it is not an option you can select and is put in by Porsche in combination with another option which needs this...

I think that 197 is part of the UK spec C16.

I only have a pretty cr4ppy stereo that comprises just two speakers on the dash. It must be the climate control and heated seats that have caused the battery upgrade.

Thanks everybody for your helpful comments. I am really enjoying my first Porsche experience. I certainly hope it won't be the only Porsche I own going forward...

Does anyone have an original price list for the optional extras so I can cost them up? Maybe someone has one on PDF or something they can please mail me?

Thanks again.

This came up on the forum some time back as it seems that having the basic battery (and UK owners have this) is a major issue with cars stored for any length of time and have a tracker system as they drain the basic battery pretty fast. The pattern found was that the higher amperage battery was on car with either the sound system or ACC...

Anyone here got a C16 without the 197 option?

I had read somewhere here that it had made a detour to Cyprus before it got to you [;)][:D]

That might explain the 13 month wait. [8D]

I've got C16 (described as 'English Emission') but no reference to 197 even though I have full Bose sound (described as P73).
Will I have the high amp battery anyway ?

Never see a car without a country equipment code, but they apparently do exist. I have an old list and C99 is "without country code equipment", but listed only for a LHD. I don't see a similar code for a RHD.

What is your C number?

I have no C number and yes they do exist as I own one!

Porsche AG confirmed that some cars went through production without one but said

(a) They do not know why.

(b) They could not issue a new sticker.

(c) Should I want one Porsche UK would issue a certificate of C16 conformity.

A Boxster without a country.

Maybe you have a made in China knockoff....

Would like to see a picture of the white option sticker for my trivia album.

In the US and in Canada we get a black sticker in the door or door sill area that certifies the car meets laws of the country where the vehicle is sold. Do you have such a sticker?

I can scan you a copy of my VIL. You can have a copy of the emails from Stuttgart for provenance if you like.

I haven't noticed a black sticker anywhere.

I have an idea.

I put this picture on Renntech because we were talking about the order type which is supposed to be in the DME.

Your country code should be in the DME. It is not in my DME because it was replaced last year and the mechanic just did not bother to enter C02 for a US car in the new DME. He also did not enter other information that was in my original DME.

Maybe your OPC can hook you up to a PST2/PIWIS and see if/what country code there is.

Interestingly (for anoraks like me) when you look at the country code in the DME of most UK cars with a PST2 it shows as C10, not C16. Why? - I have no idea. Maybe they think we all have Swiss bank accounts ready to be emptied. [;)][;)]

Are the options details listed only in the manual? Are they also recorded somewhere on the car? If so where? Is there somewhere (on the net perhaps) that a full set of options and their respective codes, can be viewed?

The most accurate listing of option codes is in the Porsche PET electronic parts catalogue. You can download a pdf version of this for each Porsche model from:

https://techinfo.porsche.com/techinfo/index.jsp

Go to: Great Britain/Workshop Information/Genuine Parts, and choose your car.

Once you have downloaded and opened it, look at the MSP Pages.
