Sorry I can’t help David, but are you sure that your budget won’t stretch to an early 987.2 car with the non-IMS engine and alusil closed-deck block, either 2.7L or 3.4L?

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Thank you for your reply. I worry I will feel short changed with the torque of the 2.7L engine and there are so few 3.4L manual cars about on the market at present.

However, yes, in theory I could and would consider a 987.2, preferably a 3.4L.

There was a nice 987.2 3.4S at a well known dealer near Heathrow that has just sold, but they wouldn't let me test drive the car, which doesn't suit me.

Thanks again.

David

Hello all,

Following discussion with John (Register Secretary) I'm posting to ask if anyone is thinking of selliing their 987.1 manual Cayman S.

Having prior experience of 996 borescore, I am looking for a car with a closed deck engine rebuild using Hartech liners.

I'd like an enthusiast-owned car, realistically priced and am based in Guildford, Surrey.

Please post here or contact me if you are considering selling your car that will meet my criteria described above.

Many thanks.

David

Apologies for slight error on my part David … the smaller engine in the 987.2 is 2.9L and not 2.7L like the 987.1, but is non-DFI. It’s still a great engine, but I know what you mean having driven a smaller engined 981 Boxster (a 2.7L with DFI!) and the lower torque compared with my 3.4L was quite noticeable, requiring more gearbox stirring (not a great hardship!).

I think that the 987-series cars were less popular than the 981, perhaps the 987.2 in particular, so it’s going to be a challenge finding something to suit, but good luck with your search.

Jeff

Have you looked at the forum recently as Graham is selling his 987.1 2.7 manual cayman and it's just listed? I appreciate its not a 3.4l s, but it may have less of an issue with borescore.

Thank you Erica.

I'm really after a 3.4.

Actually I have started looking at Boxsters now too!

Thank you GJH. It looks a nice car, but as you say, I'm not willing to take a punt I'm afraid. New liners (etc.) is c£10k.
