Most of the Speedster bits will be purely aesthetic and as the basic mechanical oily bits will be Gen 2 987 S why do Porsche bother with all these trips to the ring [&o]
 
Some of the technical specs seem a little confusing , such as the RS 60 and sport edition Cayman Gen 1 being 299 hp , I thought it was closer to 304 ? It would also seem bizarre for Porsche to re use an old design of engine such as the M97, which had so many issues ( RMS / IMS etc). Whatever the engine and final output , I think th styling will be interesting, as the car appears to use the cayman window glass, hinting at a longer shallower roof line with the hood closed. The rigidity of the 987 chassis is already praiseworthy , so I doubt the roll over cage is anything more than belt and braces for testing and safety. I wouldn't expect to see this in the final car. It would be wonderful if Porsche could style this car differently to a boxster maybe adding more hints of the RSK in terms of engine vents and a redesigned front end. It looks too much like the boxster in this test car.

It had its top down even though it was raining. The car has the classic double humps behind the headrests along the rear deck and those rises stretch back towards the end of the car. While earlier it was expected that the vehicle would make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, this has obviously not happened and now it is expected that it will make a show at the motor shows in LA, Geneva or Detroit. The car would possibly have Porsche’s six cylinder, 3.4-liter engine

It's the new 2010 version of the Boxster with a speedster style chopped top and power domes. These new aerial photographs afford a peek inside the new Porsche Speedster; you can make out the ramped power domes behind the front seats nestling under the disguise. We also hear the speedster, which will be launched in 2010, will have a lowered windscreen for more al fresco entertainment. In a U-turn from our last story, we now think this is the Speedster, not the new Porsche Boxster 'R', which is a separate, harder version of the sports car that will be revealed by the end of 2009, probably at the LA show. We don't yet know the definitive name of the new harder Porsche, although insiders have referred to the go-faster version as the Boxster R. And how does this new Porsche Boxster R differ from any other Porsche Boxster? Externally this special edition differs from its banal brothers thanks to a lower front bumper (with single rather than double strakes across the intakes – all important to the people that might buy this car), plus new side intakes and a bigger rear spoiler. And beneath that disguised rear deck is thought to be a double-bubble Speedster-style hump. Under the skin this new Porsche is expected to use the 3.4-litre flat-six currently found in the Boxster S, but with a few tweaks to lift power closer to 320bhp. As Porsche designers don't like to work too hard on brand spanking new ideas they could easily rip off this rear end for the up & coming Speedster especially as the current front end is almost there already :ROFLMAO:

Hi Andrew was told by my local OPC it is going to be something really special!and worth every penny. So will patiently wait and see the final finished article and price tag before handing over my savings fund :ROFLMAO:

They get all this information from a couple of minutes of shaky video taken on a phone? Just how gullible to they think their readers are?
 
Agree..... the journalism on this car is awful. The speedster humps are for looks and aerodynamics, nothing to do with power. Its not a power bulge as seen on some early sports cars in the 60s where the bonnet bulges were for overhead cams , larger inlet filters or supercharger intakes. PCCB is an optional extra on every model , not always an indication of extra power, more likely reducing weight to improve power to weight ratio. Even porsche themselves suggest the only benefits on braking efficiency using PCCB are a result of reduced unsprung weight and fade resistance. The boxster currently has a reduced power output compared to the cayman using the same engine, I'd expect the speedster to be more powerful than the cayman as its a limited edition , so won't upset the 911 hierachy so a mild tune is possible. I'm looking forward to some genuine press releases on this car..and when daro911 turns up to show his one off !

It's amazing how the same boring mule has been dug up on so many occasions with all sorts of complete rubbish attached about its engine having 299bhp! don't these journo's know thats less than the stock car [;)] The PCCB brakes and roll cage are probably only on the mule to save the drivers life whilst racing around the ring[:eek:] If I had to speculate on final spec I think it will be something like lots of the standard performance related items being part of the spec ie PASM:LSD:Sports Exhaust: maybe some odd ball colour(s) junk the power seats, windows,roof, and central locking, and of course add some speedster humps (even though they never appeared on the original 356!) new PU's back and front, bespoke alloys all rounded off with a whacking eye watering price tag and equally eye watering 0-62mph in maybe 0.3secs quicker than the standard "S" :ROFLMAO:
 
2010 Boxster Speedster: Spotted Fifth Gear Monday 02 November 2009 We’ve got our hands on this image of a prototype mule for the new Porsche Boxster Speedster, spotted outside the factory in Stuttgart last week. It looks much like a normal Boxster at a glance, thanks to a fake canvas soft top, but our sources in Stuttgart tell us this is a prototype for the new Boxster Speedster, due to be revealed as an official model in the near future. The car’s canvas hood, pictured here, in fact covers up the Speedsters chopped top and double-bubble hump at the rear. The production version will get a lower windscreen too. The car is expected to differ from the standard Boxster with a deeper front bumper, new side intakes and a larger rear spoiler but much of the front will remain the same. Under the bonnet the Speedster is likely to get the same 3.4-litre flat six from the Boxster S but with power boosted to around 320bhp. It’s likely to get stiffer track-bias suspension and beefier brakes in an effort to appeal to hardcore track day enthusiast and those after a raw sports car experience. Porsche is expected to announce the production version very soon.

The German company has announced the release of a new lightweight, driver-focused version of the mid-engined Boxster, known as the Boxster Spyder. Inspired by the 1954 550 Spyder, which stood only three-feet high and weighed a slender 550kg, the Boxster Spyder sports a new, low-slung silhouette with a lightweight, low-lying soft-top and windows. Completing the look is a pair of humps which extend across the boot-lid to the rear spoiler and transform the normally awkward looking Boxster into something that more closely resembles the Carrera GT supercar. Due to be unveiled at the Los Angeles Motor Show in December, the new car weighs in at just 1,275kg, which is 80kg less than the Boxster S and enough to make it the lightest Porsche on sale today. Under the bonnet, the Spyder uses Porsche's tried and tested 3.4-litre 'boxer' engine, newly tweaked to put out 320bhp. The uprated engine can be paired with a standard six-speed manual gearbox or the PDK twin-clutch system, which has now done away with its counter-intuitive steering wheel mounted controls in favour of a pair of paddle-shifters. Porsche claims that a Spyder, fitted with the optional PDK gearbox and Sports Chrono Pack will sprint to 60mph in a blistering 4.8 seconds, that's almost a second quicker than a PDK equipped Boxster S. Top speed is more familiar, with the Spyder's top speed of 166mph only 3mph more than the S. Renowned for its responsive handling and excellent brakes, the original Boxster package is hard to improve, but that hasn't stopped the Porsche engineers from trying. A lower centre of gravity coupled with a slightly revised suspension set-up allows the Spyder to be even more agile than its predecessor. However, the new Porsche isn't just about torque and tyresmoke; consumption figures of 30.4mpg, again with the optional PDK gearbox, should help cut down time spent at the pumps and should also save around £200 a year in road tax over the standard Boxster S. The new Spyder will go on sale in February 2010 as a final farewell to the Boxster, which originally went on sale in 1996. Priced at £44,643 the Spyder is almost identically priced to Audi'd TT RS Roadster and undercuts the SLK 55 AMG by £5,000. Included in the price is a chance for customers to test the limits of their new Spyder, by taking to the track at Silverstone with a special Porsche-run driving experience. However .... looking at the German Car Configurator (The UK and USA ones don't have this car yet) you can spec the car with those options .... I guess that was to keep the Americans and Hairdressers happy !!! [;)]
 
This isn’t a limited edition after all, just an expensive edition! It could be the perfect model for a spec racing series …
