Jusst noticed that 8.30 tonight 5th Gear returns and has tested a 987 .... Could be very different to the testing Clarkson did recently:ROFLMAO:

Well i've got to say that was brill[:)]
Always enjoy the Tiff v Plato track shoot outs, and tonight was no exception. Just think what it would have been like if Tiff had the Boxster S !
Great stuff
Graham

Not really a fair comparison as the Z4 doesnt compare in so many respects (ride, build, image to name a few) - a class above the Z4 but at similar price.
And doesnt the Boxster look so good in red ...

Oh god!

May delivery, is it too late to switch from Seal Grey to Guards Red?

Good show, Tiff's the man.

[8D]Yeah at least he can drive a car ... and be honest about it's actual character without resorting to petty betty Clarkson type bitching :ROFLMAO:

The gulf that separates mortals like us and professional drivers like Tiff and Jason was plain to see. Although that kind of behaviour would get you kicked off any track day, and would never be undertaken in anything you've spent your own money on, it was fantastic to watch.

June for me and same dilema!

Is red still a bi**h to colour match if you ever (God forbid) need to get your car painted?
thats what stopped me from going with red back when I ordered it.

[]Yes its still impossible to colour match red [&o] when parked under street lighting you have yourself a multi coloured car. This is what stopped me going for Red on the advice of a friend with a bodyshop.

Watching them drive like that was fantastic but obviously not the fastest. I wonder which would have been quicker if they had driven them with only speed in mind and not making good television.

i watched it and thought the boxster looke great!
really turned onto boxster's now (new shape and in guards red)

very, very nice! i want one

[&o]Weird thing is the 987 looks so much BIGGER than 986 yet the (f)actual differences in length, width, height 9mm 20mm 5mm are very small indeed! Must get my eyes tested :ROFLMAO:

I happened upon the Christmas week copy of Autocar yesterday and there was a test between the Z4 3.0, SLK 350 and 987 2.7. The Beemer, while rated for that superb engine was panned for having a terrible ride, aneasthatised steering giving no feel whatsoever, inert handling, below average driving position and pedal layout and (subjective off course), fussy styling. The Merc came out well on top of the Beemer and the Porsche was beyond the horizon.

Remember the Stig test? The 986 lapped the Top Gear track quicker than the Z4 and Honda S2000, and the 987 got around quicker than the Merc.

I also remember the last 5th gear test between the Z4 (shortly after it was released) and the then 2.7 Box. I think it was round the Pembery track, but could be wrong. The Z4 only beat the box by the blink of an eye.

Subsequently my nephew decided that my 2.7 was positively second rate.

They should have done a similar test this time, and of course the track will make a difference.

Entertaining journalism though.

[&o]Unfortunately my insurance broker a Z4 3.0L owner thinks he made the right decision going for a high spec Z4 as opposed to a more basic 987 2.7 .. [] Think 5th Gear need to do a re-run to put the record straight(er) :ROFLMAO:

My old work mate made that decision as well! I take delight in emailing him every now and then saying "how are you getting on with the 3rd best sports car on sale" or "for a car based on a rep's saloon, your car isn't too bad" and "for a car primarily aimed at men and women who care more about looks than the driving experience, it's not a bad effort". Bloody hilarious - he hates it but then the truth hurts....
