Hi, has anyone used the wireless car play dongles you can get form third parties? CPLay2air being quite a popular one it seems.
 
the CarPlay2air didn’t work at all and sent it back , and took way to long to get my refund as it gets sent direct from China , I would stay clear , iv got another one on order from https://www.nmautomotive.co.uk/ he is confident it works perfectly and it comes direct from his store
 
Hi, sorry for the late reply and thanks for the info. Would be great to know how you get on with the one you’ve recommended? You’ve saved me over £100 as was going to order the one I’d suggested. Thanks.
 
I’m away , but back in few days and my new wireless CarPlay is waiting , I’ll test it out and let you know , Stuart
 
It works perfectly , this is the first wireless option I’ve found that works. its completely wireless apple CarPlay , great product , stay clear of the carplay2air product
 
Great News. is there a long delay before it connects or is it fine? Does everything work pretty much as wired ?

It does have a slight delay in connecting ; little longer than wired , but I have another vehicle with wireless acp oem and it’s only slighty quicker , i think this is as good an option as available presently
 
Thanks for your help. I’ve been on to them today and I’m going to order one on Monday, they have them in stock and should be with me next week.
 
Now it’s been in and settled with the car for a few days , it’s instant connection , the only time it takes a short while to connect is when your in and out of the car a lot within a few minutes , apparently it takes about 15 mins fir the pcm to power down fully , so overall it works brilliantly
 
Hi, just an update on the USB dongle. I've now got it and happy with it - I think. I have had a few teething problems but think I'm getting used to it a bit more. Sound quality and speed excellent. Don't upgrade to the latest firmware at the moment. I did and it caused Spotify and Apple Music to crackle. Nick (supplier) was very responsive and polite and gave me a file to downgrade the firmware which is now working fine. I have found that if you plug your phone into the usb in the glovebox it stops car play from playing music. Plugging your phone into the cigarette lighter works fine and doesn't cause any issues. I like keeping my phone out of the way though and hate cables, I suppose it's why Ive bought this USB dongle in the first place. I am trying to get my head around how best to connect the phone in a morning and at the office. My Phone is linked to my home/office wifi and seems to be a delay in connecting until I drive away (yet to confirm this though). I have just bought a couple of wireless charging pads to fit into the centre console and have a short lead to the dongle (it has a usb out for charging your phone). If they fit, I like the sound of these, as it just means I can drop my phone onto the pad to charge when I need to. I think I've just answered one of my questions about charging the phone outside of using the usb plug in the glovebox and the cigarette lighter socket. Perhaps I'll try tomorrow just plugging the phone into the CarPlay dongle to charge it, hopefully this won't stop the music playing.

Hi, sorry for the late reply I've been away skiing and just not had chance to get the links. I do wish the forum had some kind of notification via email or even better through the Tapatalk app, as I wasn't aware someone had asked for the links until I logged on. I'm not sure if I am missing something in the settings to allow this but I feel some kind of notification when someone has replied to a thread I'm following would be useful. Anyhow, the wireless charging pad works pretty good I think. I'm certainly happy I bought it. So, I bought the following:

p.s. still happy with he Apple wireless CarPlay adapter. works pretty well. Has its moments but then so did the link when I actually plugged my phone in.
 
I'll post more details after the weekend, but I 3D printed a holder for an off the shelf wireless QI charger for my Macan and have had many enquiries and orders from other Macan owners.

I've made chargers for 987/997 variants (I have a Boxster too) and I've now made one for the 991. This is the prototype.

So I purchased a car play dongle from https://www.nmautomotive.co.uk/

I had problems with my connection dropping intermittently, I was adamant it was the dongle as I have a VW Camper with wireless carplay and my phone never lost connection at all and was really reliable. I got so fed up I juts reverted to a wired connection.

I dealt with Nick (I think his name was) the owner of the above company. He was very helpful and assisted me in some diagnostics and updates but still no robust solution.

A few months later I changed my car to a 992 and my car/phone did exactly the same with the Porsche wireless CarPlay. I ended up buying a new phone and it's worked great ever since. I do believe after all of that it was my phone (even though it wasn't that old and all up to date). I can only presume it was an app causing an issue as when I wiped the phone it seemed to work but I was due an upgrade so just got a new phone.

If it were me I'd give it a go with the above as I find it useful to have carplay wireless and its been great since.
