991 Uncovered At Last

Hopefully it means they can put auto-fold motors in there, it's a right PITA having to get out and fold them in/out manually every time I have to get the car out of the garage! []

You are probably right from memory you seemed to keep up quite well in Yorkshire in the Cayenne so you probably dont need a new car at all !

Had a flick through the current top gear magazine in the supermarket. As much as I don't find their magazine particularly interesting, their article on their time with the testers in South Africa seemed pretty comprehensive (but I didn't do more than skim it). There are some good pictures, including one with the engine cover open. The size of the new engine cover doesn't reveal any of the engine, just two fans and an air intake. Any idea what it (the engine cover) is there for (I'm thinking you don't need one like on the Boxster/Cayman)? You certainly cannot work on the engine through there. Probably have to work on the engine in the same way as a 987 i.e. drop the engine out.

Well the DFI engine has been on the scene for 3 years now and I haven't heard that they have any particular failures issues other than high pressure fuel pump. I presume you are referring to cylinder scoring? There must be some high mileage cars out there by now.

Cylinder scoring; RMS issues; IMS issues. Were all of these problems ironed-out with the DFI engines on the Gen ii models, or are they ongoing to a greater or lesser extent?

Haven't heard of any RMS issues and there isn't an IMS on the DFI engine! Likewise haven't heard of any scoring problems but maybe it's early days. Hartech are the people to ask about that.

I think when they changed the engine design the removal of the IMS also made the RMS redundant. By 07/08 cars this was a minor inconvenience (RMS) rather than impending failure any way. So your down to cylinder scoring on your list. It would be interesting to know if there are any probs with the DFI engine?

Gary, you can't link to Rennteam like that. You have to generate a link from the post you want.
