992 Faults and issues - anyone else had these or have any details?

Hey all. I've had my 992 911 C2S for approximately 5 months now. It has developed a couple of faults. I won't go into all of them, but one in particular really bothers me and I'm wondering how widespread it is;

My driver's side (UK, right) door speaker has blown. It started as playing fine but with a mild rattle. to be honest for ages I thought it was the door trim, or handle etc. Now it has completely gone. It now just rattles (loudly).

Before I ordered the car, I borrowed a C4S for the weekend, and that was given to me with the same problem.

I was talking to one of my clients a few days ago, who has a 2 month old 992 C4. ...and his has started to go as well.

These are all BOSE surround systems.

So I wanted to tap the Porsche knowledge base here.

• Is this a common fault?
• Anyone Else had it (just trying to get an idea of how widespread it is)?
• Are Porsche working on fix or anything?

Separate (but possibly related) note; I've booked the car in to have this issue and a brake light issue sorted, as the centre section of the long brake light has failed.
The Porsche centre have told me there are also two 'non-safety recalls' they need to deal with at the same time. However They've been really evasive about the details and I haven't been able to find anything online. Anyone able to shed light on this?

-for further info, I have never cranked the system above around 60% volume (which is plenty loud enough!). So it shouldn't be a question of simply blowing it through playing too loudly. No system should or would blow a speaker at 60-65% of it's alleged max volume IMHO.

Never had a problem with Bose systems and had them in about a dozen 911's and Cayennes. So can't help, and yet to receive my recall notice. So not much use really [8D]

Seems to be a well known issue on the 992. Numerous comments here as to whether it’s the speaker / insulation / cables / etc, but looks like everyone is getting it fixed under warranty and the new speakers have been revised. Also looks like the Recalls are due to PCM / Comfort settings, but one post mentions a service bulletin about the speakers. Worth sending the thread to your technician if you get any pushback.

I've already been delayed 3 times as my centre still isn't open yet.

Now I just need to work out why the brake light has failed! Haha.

No worries Hooksan! I had the Bose in my Boxster but replaced it with a better system (I work with music so it’s important to me). But still you should not be facing these issues on such a new car so I hope it gets resolved in due course.


It’s worth registering with Rennlist as it’s a more technical forum with a wider user base on that side of the pond. Rennteam forum and Pistonheads are sometimes useful too.

My 992 4S went in last week for the front drive shafts to be replaced under a recall and a couple of software updates. As drove away in wife’s car the dealership phoned to announce further software updates but also the engine mounts to be replaced AND THE BOSE WOOFERS might need to be replaced and Porsche had supplied a CD to test these and sure enough needed to be replaced! The engine mounts had been replaced last year but Porsche have apparently redesigned them yet again. Then today further updates plus some counter or something to do with the crank, it is something on the outside of the crank so does not mean dismantling the engine, thank God. You would think that Porsche would get these right in the first place given the expense of the car and of course no loan car due to the wretched virus!

My experience is similar but it seemed to fix itself? I had a rattle in my passenger door, (sound like a blown speaker). Obviously with everything going on I didn't get to the dealership until last week, (3 months after delivery). However, the rattle that was really quite bad disappeared on the day I took it to the dealer. They were not keen to dismantle a new door, (car had about 600 miles on it at that point), but they did and couldn't find what the rattle was. On about 1000 miles now and not heard the rattle since. All very odd.....

Just an update for anyone following this:

My Centre opened again on 1st June and they had my car in within 2 days. They gave me a 718 Cayman while I was without my 911, which was great.

They undertook the 'recall issues' without incident, but I am still none the wiser about what they entailed. I can't see any difference in the software I use, so I presume it wasn't anything of major note.

Regarding the speaker, they simply replaced it under warranty without any issue or question. I did raise with them that I understood this to be a relatively common fault, and they pleaded ignorance on that front (!).

However they made the replacement without issue, without cost and I got a courtesy car. Therefore all's well that ends well for now? I shall watch this space in case the problem repeats or the other door speaker is affected (they did not suggest they had replaced both).

My only gripe now is the lack of information over what was wrong and what was done, but I can get over that!

I would be weary of this.

Mine started for the first few months as a low rattle that I thought was coming from trim in the door. It was also intermittent at first. By 2500 miles it was permanent, loud and horrendous.

I hope for your sake it has resolved itself, but I would keep a close eye on it if I were you.

Give your dealership a call about the Bose speaker recall. They should test it with the CD and probably replace. I had heard the occasional rattle and not bothered about it until my dealer told me about the recall.

Our car went into Solihull this week to have the sports exhaust tips replaced as they were both showing small signs of corrosion. They ended keeping the car for the week as factory recalls were coming in thick and fast. Engine mounts, crank and Bose speaker replacement. Also while in there the alarm went off which they had never previously been able to replicate and they replaced a faulty sensor. First class service from Solihull and now car all sorted.
Car was returned fully valeted.......I would like to know how they get the lawn stripes on the mats??

Hi,

I have a new C4S that I picked up in March. With lockdown I have only managed 1100 miles in 8 months, but I have noticed this rattle from the passenger door. Usually the stereo hides it ! Without the stereo on it is quite noticeable, but it does seem to come and go ! The Service adviser at mid Sussex Porsche on this Saturday seemed unaware of any common issues !!
Your threads suggest that I am not going mad !

I must ask - were all these cars registered in 2020 ?

WLC6.....replace pulse sender
WLF4.....check control panel frame

I thought exactly the same when I was following a 992 recently and saw the centre section go off when the driver braked.

My Porsche Centre states that it is, however, a standard safety feature, that allows the two vertical brake lights to be seen easily.

Hopefully lessons have been learned and these issues will already be addressed on 2021 build cars.

Think it's fair to say all early generation cars and bikes have some teething issues and these get addressed over time.
