993 2S/4S Query

Having only had water cooled 911s before, I'm now seriously thinking about getting an air cooled model, and becoming drawn to the 993, particularly the 2S/4S in manual, which I know are not getting any cheaper.
I've driven a non S at the PEC and did like it, but very tight for leg room with my height of 6'4", this has kind of put me off in the past.
I'm now thinking there must be a way to reposition the seat further back if I really had to, and maybe a smaller steering wheel would help a bit, has anyone overcome a similar issue ??

Anyway next step would be to find a nice one, I was thinking about 40-70k miles range, my ideal colour I think is iris blue/grey, although silver/black does look pretty good too.
I guess I'd prefer the 2S but with so few around a chance of a 4S would certainly have to be considered, is there really much difference in the driving ??
Would anyone know of any nice ones either presently for sale openly, or might be coming up for sale in the near future ?? I've noticed about 3 on PH for sale - silver, vesuvius, and black, but think I'll keep an eye for a blue one at the moment.
Any other info welcome, feel free to send a pm.

I did do a bit of research on the earlier models but I think the 993 might be less of a mine field ??

Hi Sandy59, I have a 993 S2 (in Zenith Blue with 51k on the clock) and am just over 6'4" so similar to you. With the seat right back the car is fine though 5th gear can be a struggle. I've drive non-stop to Cannes and the seats are really supportive, I don't think you will have a problem. Sorry but the car isn't for sale... Best Morgan

I never had a problem with seat full back nor did my chum who is 6 ft 5 and shared a long trip with me Finding a nice low miles 2or4S could be more of a problem..... Good hunting Great car BTW

Interesting feedback on the legroom thanks, just wondering if the car I drove maybe had non height adjustable seats or something which I know can make a difference. Anyway sounds like that could be a non issue, as mentioned finding one is probably the main challenge. I quite like this but not my preferred colour unfortunately and probably the most expensive one around : http://www.pauldevyea.co.uk/detail.aspx?id=9934s

You can actually resight the seats back about an inch on the runners as there is another set of holes. The other thing to do to maximise the leg room is to set the seat base lower at the back than the front for leg support. PS the above is good test for whether the trader really knows about 993's

ORIGINAL: jdpef356 The S (I don't believe they were called 2S) had a much nicer pop up spoiler[;)]
Compare spoiler with car in post 4[8|]

It depends what you are used to but yes they drive differently. Some people will only have one or the other no compromise where as others are happy in either. Ian.

Regarding height adjustement on the seats there are buttons on the side of the seat for electric adjustment of front height and rear height. By playing with the relative heights of the front and back you can change the tilt of the seat and also the overall height. There is no single button for height adjustment. I have both front and rear adjusted down as far as possible to get the seat to sit as low as possible. Ian.

Regarding the difference between the two models the C4S is higher spec I. E. Similar to Turbo the 2S spec is similar to the standard car. Driving wise unless you are a tracking or an extremely quick driver you wouldn't really notice a difference as the slightly heavier 4S basically rear wheeled drive unless under extra load where 4wd helps. I would try and by the best car you can find and not worry about whether it's a 2S or 4S

Thanks guys, I feel more comfortable (sorry) about the seats now, and since I doubt I'll be on track will just see what comes up first and take it from there.

Hi

First of all good luck in finding either a 2S or 4S; whichever you end up with you'll have the best and most special 911 ever designed by Porsche IMHO [:)]

I bought my 2S in 2008 from a reputable garage in London. I had a full survey performed prior to purchase by the specialist Peter Morgan so that I knew exactly what I was dealing with. In the seven years since purchase I have only put 6k on the clock (now 55k) which I believe is not uncommon practise for pristine versions of the 2S and 4S.

I have had the car regularly maintained including full brakes replacement, exhaust shields etc etc. In addition I have had RSR exhaust boxes fitted (they sound fantastic) with the new style oval exhaust outlets. I also had the whole front end and rear bumper re-sprayed by the supercar paint shop specialists Chartwells of Derby (phenomenal quality) to remove all stone chips, even though the car didn't really need it. I have mentionend all this because this is the sort of fastidious care/maintenance you are looking at to keep a good 993 in top condition; or maybe it's just me?! Lol [&:]

I don't know where you are based Sandy but you are quite welcome to come and have a look at my 911 and I'll take you for a drive (if full comp for a third parties car you could also drive 'steadily' too lol) so you have an appreciation of the feel of a 2S. Unfortunately mines not for sale though; they grow on you to the extent you can't bare to part with them even when needing the money for a painful divorce lol. I did all I could to keep it and glad I did :-O.

I have recently been told that mine is now probably worth upwards of 60K so you'll have to be quick making a purchase before they become financially unavailable. These were also made in relatively low numbers which also makes them harder to find and more valuable.

Apologies for rambling on a bit. :-O.

I used to have pictures of my car on this site somewhere in a Member's Cars section but can't seem to find it now to drop in a link :S

Found a link to my members post on 911UK ;)-

Good luck!

Just to confirm Gordon's comment, the seats are held in by 4 bolts on each runner and there is the option to locate the seat further back than standard. About a ten minute job.

Rich,

Thank's for the info and guidance there, no worries on the rambling.

I'm in Aberdeen so not ideally placed to check out cars as most are basically down south. I did miss one a few weeks ago in Scotland, apparently 30 mins after the advert was posted on PH it was sold.

I am however heading down to Silverstone Classic end of July, so was hoping to maybe speak to a few 993 owners there possibly, will see how it goes.

Much appreciate the offer to see and maybe have a run in yours, will try and work out what my exact plans are in the next couple of weeks.

Cheers,

Sandy

Thanks John, sounds like an easy fix then on any potential legroom issues.

No problem Sandy; drop me a PM if it becomes feasible or if you have any other queries I could help you with :)

Just wondering if anyone knew anything about this actual car ?? A bit more than I was really wanting to pay, I think it's actually been for sale since Feb and I wasn't originally drawn to it as I'm not that keen on black. Any comments on the colour inside and out and general spec ??

My C2 was schwarz black

lovely colour

this car looks immaculate and with that low mileage I'm not surprised its that price with normal C2and C4 routinely getting high 40,s with low mileage you're looking at 60-80 for low mileage cracking C2and4S.
