993 2S/4S Query

This is one of the rare 4Ss without the large fixed rear spoiler, but it is curious that it then gets the non-S engine grill rather than getting the same split grill as the 2S.

Good spot.

Just checked I/net and other pictures of 4S's look the same, ie a non split grill.

By email ask for the the service history and whether its had any major accidental damage particularily to front or rear end.

The Grey interior is probably holding it back people usually want black.

PS before anyone comments ref my accidental damage one, major impacts in the firdt 5 years are often repaired without attracting a cat c or d notation.

Gordon,

I actually did ask but the reply was to call him for any further info. Can I ask if it's something you suspect with this car or just something that should be checked with any car ??

My 993 C4S has done 170k miles (130k of which are mine) and was valued at £41k a year ago by Autofarm for agreed-value insurance with Lockton.

She has been kept in top-notch condition and driven with vigour.

I purchased her for £45k 15 years ago.

That's a pretty decent mileage by any standards, was the engine/gearbox etc rebuilt along the way out of interest ??

Thats sounds like cheap motoring in one of Stuttgart's finest! [;)]

Indeed.

Although I have to say that I have spent about £17k on services, maintenance and repairs, and about £5k on enhancements (nothing too invasive and she could be returned to factory-state quite easily).

Value for money? Yes.

The engine and gearbox are both as originally fitted.

The engine was tested by JZ Machtech, at 140k miles prior to cleaning the injectors and fitting a new chip. They said my engine left the factory with 9% compression leak loss and that at the time of testing 4x cylinders were at 10%, 1x cylinder was at 11% and 1x cylinder was at 12%. Almost new.

On the odd occasion when the gearbox gets a bit graunchy in the lower gears when cold, a change of gearbox oil has always fixed the problem.

It also needed a new clutch at 90k miles which I am still using.

I fitted a replacement rear-diff - a Wavetrac TB LSD. The original clutch-based diff had worn-out and spare parts proved difficult to source so I went for a TB diff. The Quaife TB LSD is a common replacement choice but the Wavetrac TB LSD solves the 'one wheel off the ground' problem with normal TB diffs.

I replaced the standard Monroe suspension with KW Variant 3 coilovers.
