993 fuel

I started with my 993 on standard unleaded and switched to high-octane unleaded - the resulting improvement in my fuel economy was four-six percent and therefore cancelled out the premium paid for the more expensive fuel.

If you are wondering whether to switch to high-octane fuel then it's worth trying that test for your consumption levels, subject to the caveats about giving the engine time to adjust to the new fuel type.

All my 993s have run best on Optimax and then V-power, as opposed to my TVRs which have all run better on Tesco 99. Weird, but true.

I've only ever run a 993 on 95 octane once, when i was in Italy in my C4S many years ago, and it ran like a dog.
Filled up with super again at first opportunity (Switzerland) and never looked back.

I use the Shell V-power too.

There's an email doing the rounds at the moment about the artificially high petrol costs at the moment, the email is saying boycott BP and Esso. They'll drop their prices if demand falls enough, and the others would have to follow. It's a great idea!

BP have the supply contract for Sainsburys, the only difference is that the Supermarket fuel doesn't have the same additives which makes it "BP Brand"...

I'vce seen the email about boycotting BP a year or so ago, at the time it said don't buy until the price drops below 60p a litre.. I almost fell off my chair when i read it - itsthe government that keep the price up, Duty and VAT alone account for more than 60p a litre.. OUCH !!

I'm sorry, check the fuel consumption? I don't think so.....

Always use V-Power though, just feel it's better for the engine.

And no, I can't feel a difference in the performance. It would be 'kin quick with bio-fuel

My attitude is that I paid a lot of money for Porsche engineering, and yes it will run on 95 Octane, but why not run it as the designers intended, the additional cost is pretty marginal in the overall yearly cost to keep a 993 going

Pete

That sums it up in a nutshell Pete

Yes and I don't see how some people don't notice a difference in performance between 95 and 97/99. Maybe they run their cars mainly on 95 and don't give the car time to adjust to the odd shot of 97/99 and therefore conclude there's no difference. Give it time to adjust - the car will run better (smoother, crisper etc).

Hi,as a bit of a side note to this,a couple of people have said they dont notice any diff between 95 and 99 octain. It may be ur only getting half throttle (see broken throttle cable thread on this forum) Let me briefly explain, had my car about ten plus years it was quick, but never seemed as much as other cars i drove like lotus, ferrai etc,so even contemplated supercharging it. Anyway a while back my brother wanted to buy one,so looked at a couple & drove them, they drove just like mine same power.we finaly found a nice one and he bought it.i drove it a few times again same power as mine (although he likes 2 think his is faster lol).Them his throttle cable broke (& u can read the full saga on forum) when we replaced it, it turned out someone had put it in wrong and he was only getting 44% throttle,we fixed it now and it really goes like a rocket ship. So i checked mine and mine had been put in wrong & im only getting 44 % throttle,so i imagine the other two i tried had the same issue.
So if four cars in a row all had the same prob,it stands to reason there is probly more out there suffering the same prob.

It seems to happen when either the engine is droped out or the inlet manifold assembly is removed for servicing,as it very easy to put the throttle cable in the cruise control slot as they are the same, just one is lower,or to fit the braket upside down
