993 RS tyre pressures on track

Have been doing a bit of a search on here and Ph regarding 993RS tyre pressures on track and churned out some rather wide range of recommendations.

Just did a couple of trackdays with my RS, and was using my old trick of releasing the air out after a few laps so the hot pressure is the same as the recommended pressure, ie 36 front, 44 rear.

That however seems to be a bit high according to some of the threads. Does that mean there's even more grip than I had?

What are the general thoughts regarding track tyre pressures? considering my RS is a dentist spec standard model, now with road tyres, and later with Toyo?

u dont say wat tyres ur on ? If as it sounds like they re road tyres hot abt 30 / 32 hot ????? adjust to taste ........toyos are a world of their own but on a similar car to urs of similar weight but more power ,that goes up abt 10 lbs on summer track day i am using the same with toyos ,maybe 32 34 and bleed down ..............

Thanks Vic, I've got SO2 on the car at the moment, but soon I'll be changing the wheels and put some Toyos on.

Those pressures are an awfull lot less than the book pressure, so I guess I should bleed to that pressure, run out, and bleed again to stay at that pressure hot? I guess that's why I can't drive properly, well that's my excuse anyway...

Exactly right , and pump them up again before u come home .....................with slightly aggressive settings for camber etc u tend to wear inside edges with road work and outsides if u track it on road settings .............as u feel ur own limits u ll strike a happy medium ...............its all personal , some like 30 hot all round but with the front back difference i reckon it gives sharper turn in .........................maybe u ll only bleeed 6/7/8 lbs from starters but the back will be glued down !!!

Sorry shant be there until 6/7th or wud luv to assist ........have a great time .

BTW if its wet keep them 2/3 lbs higher until they get some heat in them ...............

Hi Mick
Toyo or SO2,look for 32 allround dry,wet 35/36 allround.
Dont forget roll bar settings are critical to get the best out of the car and you,wet and dry.

i THINK HE MEANS SLACK THEM OFF ,EVEN TAKE REAR OFF IN THE WET!..................................does nt matter wat they are when ur on Belgian flint!!

Dry roll bars
rear full stiff, front ,one off full stiff,if understeering, soften front one more hole, with rear still on full stiff.
Wet
Front full soft,rear full soft,
or on the rear disconnect one side, will cause understeer at limit of grip, instead of over steer, safer for a slippery track.,until you get used to your car etc
Cable tie drop link out of the way.

Just how easy is it to change the anti-roll bar setting? Is it something you can do with a jack and a spanner in the paddock, or is it a garage job?

I suppose I can set it up for dry for the Spa trip, then just take it ultra easy if it rains, is that a bad plan?

Mick, Paul passed on his excellent advice on roll bars before,,,,I have settled on middle of 5 at the front and full stiff at the back....certainly made a difference to both RS I have owned from the settings they arrived with.

You can disconnect a roll bar in a matter of minutes once you know what you are doing. First time you look, the threads may be corroded or seized and you can have fun man handling the drop links.

Personally when it rains, I just raise the tyre pressures from those I use dry and hot, I find this easier as at least I am driving a car I know. It would have to be seriously wet for me to consider getting underneath with the spanners, but I am only having trackday fun rather than racing which is probably the difference.

Vic, please feel free to get under the car and adjust the next time we meet at a wet trackday......must catch up about future trackdays....new m/sport diff plates going in soon....need to try them out [:)]

not my idea of fun either crawling underneath the car when it's pouring down....

are you guys doing any more trackdays this yr?

Goodwood , next Tuesday very private , dont even ask, kinda memorial for a young guy..........................Spa early June; BH gp wiv Goldtrack 20th June ...............nuffink further .......................will have to save up for some consumables before then!

I fancied the brands gp on 6/20.....but baulked at the £399 cost!!!....need to get back to goodwood at some point....as you say consumables start to add up []

Tend to book job lot with GTrack so dont pay that price , just luv GP it its perfect for the car to stretch its legs ,theres an Indy evening 14th June but bit of a crap journey at the end of a day ...................near for u and Des!!!

have you guys done Cadwell before? Just been for the first time last wkend, initially quite nervous because of all the talk about being tight and narrow etc, but what a beautiful and fantastic track!! The gradient is amazing in places, the only narrow part of the track is quite slow anyway, and the fast corners all have plenty of run off area, so really enjoyed the track! The only problem is that it's so blimmin far away from anywhere!
