993 Sports Steering Wheel

My car is with an OPC at the moment being serviced etc and I have asked them to fit a genuine RS wheel...

They are telling me that there is no way of deactivating the airbag fault light as this wheel dose not have an airbag?

Can anyone shed some advice on this?

Many thanks

Neil

If you take the bulb out, the light is deactivated [;)]

I think this is the only way - not sure how it works on 993 RS's, presumably they don't have the circuit at all

Very happy with my 3-spoke from Porscheshop. Disconnect battery for an hour before you do the job + ground yourself too. Airbags & static don't mix. Don't touch the electrical connector contacts. It is an easy job though.

I'm 6'2" & moved driver's seat 1" back using pre-existing holes. Feels like it's a big improvement. Honest! [:D]

There is a 993/996 cup steering wheel for sale on Pistonheads at the moment for £189.

I have no connection with the person advertising the wheel, just thought I would point it out.

Change OPC .
They obviously don't have a clue and will probably charge you big £££ for what is in fact a 15min job.

I brought my wheel from the states, (half price $600) and then had to pay the import duty on it that came to an extra £80 (dont know how they work that out)
but the wheel cost in total £360, the airbag, the guys in the states would not ship, but I can get one for about £300 from the local OPC, just have not got it yet.

Neil,

I had the exact same job done at Tognola engineering. Peter put a small "inline" resistor/fuse on the circuit and the "airbag" light went out and stayed out. I assume the "resistor" completed the wiring circuit and acted as if an airbag was present.

The RS wheel looked really good as well, I got mine from Gert.

Cheers
Charlie

I am not sure what M030 is saying - do you have a suggestion??

Thanks Charlie, I had read this somewhere re the resistor but the OPC personnel say that this is not recommended and has previously led to the passengers airbag going off of it own accord?

I have for the short time removed the bulb which still has the "!" going on when started... That said I'm very happy with my new wheel.

I'll call Tognola tomorrow to discuss... Thanks again Charlie
