993 Targa Valuation

ORIGINAL: TRW40

One more thought. Do you miss your car RIP993?

My story is very sad as I totaled my 993 on Monday morning. I'm waiting for the insurance loss adjuster to come back to me (hopefully this week). It didn't look good when they scraped it of the grass verge.

So right now I'm gutted and feeling very silly. I was thinking of selling it this spring but could not even come up with a shortlist of other "sensible" cars so yes I think you would miss yours. I did use mine every day and right now the nissan micra the insurance company have lent me is not even a poor substitute (feels like penance). I'm sure I will buy another 993, great fun, very strong (there isn't a scratch on me) and beautiful.

Harborp, I am very sorry but the penny had not dropped. I had thought RIP 993 was your user name and referred to the car you sold last year. I had not appreciated the significance of it. I have been following your sad tale on the other thread; I realise you must be gutted. I did not buy an X5 from you last year; my daily drive is a boring Zafira. Now a sensible car for you - how about a 993/996 turbo? I have thought about it but that would just increase my guilt about having money sat in a car I am not using enough and in any event, I suspect the additional adrenalin rush would soon wear off. As you say, I am sure I would miss my car, I am just not sure how much and whether I can substitute it with something I can be equally fond of but at a lower price - I have even thought about a Yamaha R1. Now, I do sound as though I need therapy don't I - when will this mid life crisis end?!

It's probably heresy but I reckon you are right about the R1 [;)]

hmm turbo [8D] (993 definitely)

anyway got to go and drive past the crash scene again today, I might see if I can find the missing wing mirror

When I sold my previous 993 the buyer and I went to his bank in my town where he was issued with a bankers draft and we then walked to my bank where we deposited it. If your own bank has a branch in the area of the seller its easy to arrange the issue of the bankers draft at any branch in the country.

I have been paid for cars with a carrier bag full of cash, its just a pain to count it all! Not to be recommended really.

On this theme, I recently sold my Volvo S60 T5 for (only) £9k. In the end I went to his bank with him, we got the cash and went straight to my bank round the corner to pay it in. Even £9K is a big lump to handle and we felt very vulnerable. I had phoned my bank previously becuas the guy said he would bring the cash with him to my house, but my bank told me if the notes turned out to be counterfeit at a later date, they would be able to trace that I had paid them in and I would be liable (i.e- out of pocket). That's why I went with him to get the cash. Even selling a car of that value was a little nerve racking!

Previouslky I sold my 968 and the purchaser was happy to put the money into my bank by electronic funds transfer before he took the car. This is the safest way, but as stated earlier, requires an elemnet of trust on the part of the purchaser.
