993 TT Dilemma: Inner door rust

Oh I am new here and still learning the PCGB ropes so I'm happy to go with the flow. Not sure what you mean by Register but I shall PM you..
Thanks

If the vendor is the one I think it is (something to do with 6?) I looked at a low mileage (34K from memory) 88 targa they had a few years ago. It was listed in the low 30s (big money back in 2013) and described as mint etc etc but had 3 different brands of tyres, an exhaust that was very badly rusted (to the point nuts and bolts were no longer distinguishable as such and the flages were flaking apart) and the entire underbody (minus the exhaust) had recently been sprayed with a under-sealant hiding who knows what flaws. I discovered this when I asked for the car to be put on a lift. The sales man/manager seemed surprised at my findings but not too fussed all the same. They eventually offered to replace the tyres and the exhaust within the asking price but I walked - given what I had found I couldn't help but wonder "what else?". It turns out they had bought the car from another dealer for just under £20K and were trying to flip it based upon their reputation and location. To say I was underwhelmed is an understatement. I was disappointed that a "high end" dealer was selling such a questionable car. Given the alleged wealth of the owner you might think they wouldn't need to stoop to such tactics.

Oh dear! I'd love a nice Targa SC or 964 actually. Well that was a timely comment as I had mean't to update this thread but was waiting for more conclusive news, however there has been positive progress. Regarding first the last comment above; at least we did have the car up on a ramp, and down off the ramp, as the head mechanic and owner of a Porsche specialist I have been with for 5 years came and inspected it prior to purchase, so we know at least the car was pretty good to start with. We also know the mileage adds up with the history, which is detailed. It turns out the car had just not been prepped properly thus...

My guy was given the nod to look inside the door while it was in my our possession and the corrosion was very minimal indeed, much to my relief, rather superficial. The vendor took the car back in their truck a few days ago and are working on the door while sending me progress reports with high res. photos. They will also begin with the list of minor odds & ends I part mentioned in the OP above. The car will go directly back to my guys thereafter and they will check the list one-by-one to assure its all done to a high standard.

Discussions got real testy last week, but my mediation skills came to the fore and won out, so we appear to be on the path to resolution. I will update when I personally take the car back.

On the whole I am thus far pretty darn relieved!

Dear All

It's been a little while and I almost forgot that I'd promised to name names and conclude this thread with the final happenings of this minor fracas in relation to the purchase of my 993 Turbo.

1. It was Hexagon Classics
2. It got a bit feisty but we managed to thrash it all out
3. They put me directly in contact with the lovely chap who runs their workshop and he has done everything I asked of him, with a smile

It turns out the driver's door was barely corroded at all, and perhaps my guys over reacted to what they assumed it was because they had seen the issue on 2 other 993's earlier, which were problematic. When they opened up the door on mine they were very surprised to see how good it was (and perhaps slightly embarrassed also).

I really do not know why it almost went pear shaped back there before. I think to some extent the birth of a new relationship can be liked that between guys, a certain amount of posturing and defending one's turf etc. I also think that somehow I ended up in the middle of two professionals with a difference of opinion, my inspection guys and the vendor. However it has all worked out in the end, thank goodness, and I am pleased to say that I am on very good terms with everyone at Hexagon and they are really working well for me.

So that's this thread rounded off (any questions are still welcome) and I am now about to begin a new one with much more cheerful undertones...
