993 widebody advise sort

Just read the advert for the blown-engine car. £22K for a new engine!! Is that a real 993 engine cost (I know later models are low teens) or did something else happen at same time? - would be interesting to see the invoice!

Better check my oil level![&:]

I have always understood an engine rebuild would typically be 5K - 10K depending on what is saveable. At 10K you would be looking at new barrels and pistons and new cams, etc but most parts on the engine reusable (re-ground/re-polished crank, cases, cam towers, etc). 5K is your typical starting point for a full strip and rebuild with everything re-usable new rings, valves and guides done etc.

So the previous engine must have been completely trashed and everything new. I can see that being 22K but my question would be why go down that route. Source a decent second hand 993 engine at 5K and rebuild. It's not like decent second hand arn't out there. Even at a rebuild price of that engine you are lower than 22K.

The ad says new engine so my guess is 22K for a brand new engine from Porsche and probably fitted by OPC. I can think of more effective ways of spending 22K !!!

Ian.

This car sold on ebay a few weeks ago for 25'ish.

I tried to get further info including services, MOT's etc couldnt get anything. Left email saying to contact me if sale fell through but only if data supplied. Havent heard a thing!!

Treat with caution, car is cheap, somethings wrong and owner doesnt want to communicate!

Wasnt aware the car was on Ebay. Just figured out how to search for completed auctions and couldn`t find it.

I too have sent an e-mail via pistonheads but hadn`t heard back yet. Its starting to sounds very dodgy.

Nice work. Wonder if it actually sold or not. Have left a voice message with the contact number via pistonheads. Will wait and see if I hear back although you have me a bit worried now.

wasnt meant to worry , it was just tread carefully.

This car would have sold a long time ago for around £30k if service history and MOT data was provided etc

These are almost common[;)] Found what looks like a better bet (well would be for me) like colour price etc and its manual

Really falling out of the woodwork now:-

Silver one for £36k was up for a sale a couple of months ago. If only it had black leather and was a bit cheaper.

Black one looks nice but contacted the owner and found out last service was back in June 2009 at 62k so its missed 2 annual service and obviously is due for a major service now given its been over 2 years since the last. Clutch and suspension still original so would need to fact in a refresh/replacement of those in the future. Its very original but that translates to not much has been refreshed over the years. Given the lack of service etc what would be a fair price to pay for this black one, £28.5k?

Love midnight blue colour but its a tip. If it was manual i`d have snapped it up. Guess it would have been more expensive though.

Stll waiting to hear back on the Ocean blue one that was on ebay. Left a couple of voice messages and a few e-mails now but just getting radio silence.

Late comment, but sorry, but there's so much twaddle being talked about prices and mileages - yes they're beautiful cars... are you only there for the investment?

I dont follow your post.

Not after an investment but just making sure I pay the right price for the right car. Dont have money to burn so dont want to get burned should I have to sell in the future.

You stick with the 993's, they must be the lowest depreciating model range .........
