Its not a fitted price, but I'm not 100% sure it includes the map date I cannot imagine it would not as all other makers do.

The above Porsche unit looks good but its only a 7" screen.

If you compare it to the Alpine units below it is rather expensive and the Alpine units are easy to update and i assume will be far cheaper than the Porsche item.

It has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you can use your smartphone navigation app, like Google maps, Waze, etc., which don't need updating. I'm not sure how much mobile data that uses though.

Having found this, I guess not! TBH, as stated above, Google Maps would be your best bet and you get live traffic etc. However, as we know the Internet isn't always reliable so good to have something in case of flat phone etc.

Of course, I'm guessing this price wont be cheap either, but also will need to be updated, so I assume an ongoing cost?

Looking further into it, the map data is a different part number which is about £150. why would this not be included in the price perhaps it is? If not it makes it very expensive way more than good quality alternatives.

Is it a better bit of kit than the equivalent Alpine or Pioneer I doubt it very much.

Having tried a number of different aftermarket double din units, I would be very interested in trying out one of these units, even at that price. Provided it performs well and is decent quality, i don't think its too expensive as I would attach a premium for it to look oem.

Over the years I've tried a number of double din units from parrot, pioneer and most recently a 'floating' unit from Joying. None of them have work particularly well, the parrot unit was one of the first android head units so that one doesn't really count. The pioneer was the first of the carplay compatible headunits and even though it was decent quality, it still required jumping through a bunch of hoops to get it wired in to the oem loom so I didn't strip the car down entirely just to run new speaker wires (I also wired in a new power amp). The same issue goes for the joying unit, but has additional problems. I had not been massively keen on the 6" screen on the pioneer, so I went for a floating 8" screen with the joying, this fixes the screen real estate problem, but it also hides the rest of the buttons on the centre console, so not ideal for turning on the rear wiper!.

Aftermarket headunits might look cheap in comparison, but if you look at Alpines freestyle X703D-F version, which might provide a decent install, or one of pioneers newer floating style units (DMH-WC6600NEX), they aren't much cheaper than this PCCM one, and you have to put up with the terrible quality double din surrounds that are out there and budget for a new amp and awkward installation.

If I wasn't looking at selling my car, I'd be seriously considering one of these.

But I have a question. Will it still connect to the multi-CD player that's under the hood so I can play my old CDs as well?

I know that's really retro and I should have digitised my collection by now, but hey, some of us like the old tech too!

Been quoted £1970 for the plus unit fitted by my local OPEC but will probably be able to negotiate a small discount. The chap I deal with says when he gets back to work he will be inundated with these as he has been asked so many times on how to retro fit Apple car play into the older models.

From what I have seen, there is no provision on the PCCM units for a connection to the MOST (fibre optic) bus. See the photos in the attachment. MOST is an oblong 2-pole connector, and I can't see one. MOST is used for the CDC, Amplifier, and Telephone modules on MY2003 cars onwards. (Either PCM2.0 or CDR23). @ Eddie - Did they say how they would handle the amplifier connection?

Thanks to Andy's early notice to everyone concerning the launch of this new unit, I ordered one last week from Teile.com. It arrived yesterday and although I normally run a mile from anything electric on modern cars, I persuaded myself that it was likely to be relatively easy as it is an OEM solution, and if it wasn't easy I could always persuade my dealership to fit it once they reopen. My car is a 2005 Turbo S.

It certainly took me more time than a dealer, but I'm pleased to say it is now up and running. Will post some photos later, (but in a separate post as I lost all my written post yesterday when I tried to add images, so am playing safe.) This is my first contribution to the forum so am not particularly au fait.

A couple of comments for those who may be thinking of doing the same.

1) There are no written fitting instructions or images so you have to work out from observation which bits of wire and/or connectors are relevant to your model, as it comes with a large number so it covers a wide range of models and so all the possible bases. Fortunately as all the connectors are unique and colour coded, the scope for error is low. The challenge is figuring out which additional units or adpaters are necessary for your particular model, eg relevant to my car, there a splitter to separate out DAB from the normal radio antenna.

2) The external control unit through which you connect your phone (or a USB source) has a relatively short loom. The Porsche website shows this external unit located to the front of the optional cubby hole below the main unit. My car previously had a CD storage unit there, and so I bought the requisite cubby hole separately on line, and concluded that it would be best to cut a large hole in the rear (the same size as the control unit) so that the connecting loom could reach the back of the AV unit before it is inserted into the double din. Once the main unit is in the double din, you can then pull the small control unit forward in the cubby hole. In fact I've left mine towards the back (half in, half out) as it leaves more room for the phone. Since they supply a velcro fixing it is fine to relocate it. It took me a bit of trial and error to work out that cutting a hole just for the wires would not give me the requisite length.

3) The map data is definitely a separate purchase.

4) Likewise I can confirm that there is no connection for the existing multi CD player.

5) The unit doesn't easily slip into the double din slot as it has different lugs, but with a bit of trial and error I am now comfortable that it will neither fall out or rattle. Its just the old unit had some very strong OEM clamps and this one doesn't.

One other tip is that the default setting for the phone is 'external microphone' so if you are not fitting the one supplied you need to go into the menu to uncheck otherwise no voice pick up. I expected my existing OEM mic in the dash to be operative but for some reason it wasn't although the existing loom plugged into one of the sockets.

When I post the photos you will see how there is a small internal shelf supplied on which to locate some of the adapaters for the DAB and the audio.

The graphics are classy and I am a fan of ApplePlay as I have a modern ApplePlay compatible unit fitted in a similar vintage AM Vanquish. The touchscreen is very neat, and it blends well with the rest of the dash. It doesnt feel at all out of place and brings the car up to date.
