I've had the modified P.C.C.M. Plus unit fitted to my 2003 996 C2 for just over 2 months now. Unfortunately I'm now experiencing a problem with my Fuel Computer/Trip Reader on my dashboard. The problem is that periodically the fuel computer/trip reader keeps re setting itself to zero mid journey. Without me touching the fuel computer stalk or the instrument brinicle trip reader reset button. I wonder if anyone else is experiencing the same problem. The car has been back to my O.P.C. where it was fitted three times now. Without them being able to diagnose the fault. I must say they have been very understanding. However they say the P.C.C.M. Plus isn't linked to the instrument cluster in a way that could make the fuel computer/trip reader zero itself.
Whilst I'm on. Would I be right in saying that only cars that had a previously factory fitted P.C.M. 1 or 2 unit continue to get the secondary direction arrow/distance to junction display on the cars instrument cluster with a P.C.C.M. Plus unit fitted. My car had the single DIN CDR-22 CD Radio. I don't get the secondary information on my instrument cluster. I'm presuming this is correct and I won't ever be able to have the secondary information.
Lastly. Someone mentioned a dongle to be able to connect the mobile phone wirelessly. I presume this will work with an Android Phone.
Thanks Phil

To be honest I've never bothered with DAB before even in my modern cars I never use it, but it would be a shame to know it doesn't work properly on a brand new unit.
(I have the wireless dongle for Apple CarPlay on order from the states right now so will post about that here as well when it arrives).

I think the issue you may have is the antenna amp. A lot of installers skip this step from what I've seen, either they don't have the original Porsche installation instruction which details what all the little bypass cables are for or they are just too lazy as the DAB will sort of work well enough for a demo without fitting the cables.
In the kit you have a few cables designed to be fitted to bypass the original antenna systems in the car and which ones you need depends on if your car originally had a CDR radio where it bypasses the factory antenna amplifier (found in the driver A pillar) or if you had a PCM where it bypasses the factory antenna amplifier and diversity module, since PCM equipped cars have two antenna's.
Additional risk of them doing this is you are feeding an already amplified antenna signal into another amplifier which can damage your radio circuit but hopefully that hasn't happed.
The reason you get bad DAB reception is because you factory antenna amplifier is designed to amplify FM and AM frequencies and attenuate everything else, which includes DAB frequencies. You essentially have a device blocking DAB on your antenna making it very had for your radio to derive a signal and the kit has the cable to bypass this device and the box that comes with the Radio is the new amplifier which separates and amplifies AM/FM and DAB.
So far I've seen so many of these installs bodged by people that claim to be professionals but just assume the kit will go in like any other aftermarket radio designed to work around a cars existing systems, but Porsche have had this designed to be essentially a factory replacement for the original radio and as such talking to the car on the CANbus and bypasses existing systems the car no longer need rather than working around them. Most aftermarket DAB radio's just make you install a second stick on antenna for DAB to your windshield but this modifies the existing antenna system to not need such methods.

Hi, I’m not great with mk1 electrics cars and I’m sorry to say your OPC or at least in my experience have no clue if your car is more than 1 generation old but I may have some ideas.Boxster1999 said:Hello All

First, there’s a few hidden menu’s on the PCCM, all can be obtained by going to your settings and holding the category for 10 seconds But you will need to check each one. You will want to disable anything CANbus related. I think a CDR22 has no CAN bus connector either way so this shouldn’t effect you only the PCM1 had it to sync the trip computer but easier to check without booking back in the OPC.
Second, in my mind more likely. Cars with MK2 electrics I.e had a CDR23 or PCM 2.0 can have navigation directions on the instrument cluster as the later cars have a completely redesigned instrument cluster with a dot matrix centre screen and a rare PCM 2.0 without the telephone function was available as a tequipment retrofit from the OPC so navi directions could be turned on to get directions on a CDR23 car retrofitted with a PCM2. However the guy who did your installation may have got confused and think a CDR22 and CD23 in a 996 must be basically the same thing so turn on the OBC to PCM communication setting on the computer like you would do on a CDR23 car so they get PCCM navigation which then has your car trying to sync its trip computer with a PCM1, of course the new radio doesn’t communicate with the trip computer and the OBC is put in an error state, resets and tried to establish communication again Which would explain your issue.
In regards to the wireless boxes, some are for CarPlay for iPhones, some for Android Auto for Android phones, you will need the correct box for the phone you are using.

nothing more annoying than getting out the car walking somewhere and then realising the phones still in the car attached to its umbilical cord.
Merry Christmas and a happy new tier everyone!
I've just upgraded my 996C4 to a C4s Cab which has the original Unit with sat nav
I'm thinking of adding a Bluetooth adapter which I think will facilitate music and telephone access
or
Replacing with a new unit with carplay etc
Can anyoine recommend a good value unit if i go the latter route
Many thanks

I've got one for my PCCM but I can't seem to load the dongle software onto the unit... how did you manage it?Mattjevans said:cplay2air, great idea. Good to know it works !
