996 exhaust

Hi guys and girls I'm thinking about replacing the rear exhaust boxes on my 2003 c2 coupe as there are starting to corrode!! I would like to replace them with stainless steel ones. I have been told about a set up with a better sound and the option to switch them whilst driving but have no idea of cost and if they are any good??? Some advice would be very much appreciated, especially if someone has changed there's recently.

I've got Dansk mufflers on my c4s they came with the car I love the sound of them but as for cost must be able to google it. And there stainless

Hi I have dansk sport boxes on mine plus dansk 100 cel cats and full stainless headers with a merge collector. It sounds awesome, and it does make a difference. There are lots on the market, I sat on the net for a while and listened to fair few recordings. So yes like pieman I can say dansk are good,

Design 911 seem to have a good range of ss performance exhausts. Some have video clips so you can listen to them. Otherwise there's loads of clips on YouTube. I've also heard good things on Dansk. Good luck. John

Not done mine yet, but Dansk seems to be popular and reasonably priced. The are many other makes and price ranges - there is a list on pistonheads with different options.

The switchable type are OEM (very expensive) along with after market types. One indie told me that some of these can be problematic as they age.

These are what have been recommended to me.......

I think you can get them circa £650....

Im looking into them for my Targa

Thanks guys for all your comments and advice, I think I'm going to get the danks stainless ones I've not got them yet but ive spoke to my indy today and they quoted me about £500 to fit them so all I need to do now is get the boxes at the best price !!! ;-))

Are they fitting the whole exhaust or just the mufflers (boxes) seems a lot to me for the mufflers. Also does that includes new bolts/fittings and all clamps

I have a SS system on my 996 TT made by Europipe with 100 cell cats. Sounds fantastic without being raucous, however there is some 'boom' at certain speeds/revs. I put some Dansk sport silencers on my previous 993 C2S, again they sounded better than the original but had some 'boom' at 70-80 but other speeds fine. The next owner had to open one of the silencers as a baffle was resonating & had it re welded. Good luck with your choice!

He's only fitting The rear boxes ,I must admit I thought that sounded a bit steep as well ,although he did say he is allowing up to £100 for clamps and other bits Worst case scenario!! he said it would take 3 to 4 hours labour obviously myself not being mechanically minded have no idea how long these things take, but if anyone knows how long it normally takes please let me know or if anyone has any costs on fitting these things I would much appreciate it as I could try a different Indy ?? Thanks.

if you can have a look under the rear by the boxes they are fixed to a bracket. Which is fixed to another bracket that's bolted to the block. The 3 bolts that fix the muffler to the first bracket normally rust away and snap. Go on design 911 and they give a broken down diagram under the exhaust section. I'm sure if you can't find this Richard could find you one.

Hi Gary,

It should be this part number FOR 300S not 300SEXP as evidently the ones in my previous link would fail dB test on track days.....

Also fitting kit part number1621700710 + new gakets & bolts.......

My Indie expects approx 3 hours labour.....

Hope this helps,

Paul

Hi folks I've now purchased the dansk stainless boxes from "9apart" I paid £570 for them ,they are being delivered today and are booked in with aw motorsport next thursday for fitting !! I'm looking forward to listening to the result ;-)) I hope I'm not disappointed ?? I've listened to a few sound clips and decided to go with the "sports" box as aposed to the "super sport " as I believe they are too noisy for everyday driving !! Thanks again for you advice and comments ;-))
