Thx for that. I have seen and driven the car a couple of times. Has some v small stone chips on front, which i guess is usual, apart from that looks fine. I think the 111pt check also takes general look at bodywork and identifies any marks. I have requested copy of 111pt check so will get that. I guess if i proceed then I will go in person to sign paperwork so as to avoid any delay.

If they bring up any issues, just get the garage to fix the problems (with Porsche approved parts) and take it back to Porsche. I don't think they will charge you again for an inspection as long as you then take out the warranty.
Good luck!

Well when my car was inpected by JCT in Sheffield earlier this year they would only allow the person who was there in the dealership to obtain the warranty (and that was the seller not me) despite me offering my credit card - this was due to the warranty now being regulated etc.
They would also not allow the warranty to be put on after the car had left the dealership and basically said we had 24 or maybe 48 hours to decide whether to put the warranty on.
The car did not already have a warranty so it was a new warranty rather than a renewal which I suspect is the case with the car being discussed.
I would therefore have a dicussion with the OPC performing the inspection to ensure you know what the requirements are.
You can renew automatically as long as you have complied with the service schedule and therefore you don't need the 111pt inspection each year.

Just spoke with dealer, said it shouldn't be a problem getting it in my name immediately. Another thing i noticed looking at 996tt service costs, the major service on upto and incl 03 reg is every 24k miles or 2yrs, for 04 reg onwards it is every 24k miles or 4years. Why is the 04 reg cheaper from the point of view that i will prob do 6k miles a year and so the major service won't kick in for 4 years, as opposed to every 2years. Am i better looking for 04 reg ? I know this will be more expensive, but effectively I will be spending approx £1k every 2 years as opposed to every 4 years. I guess it's swings and roundabouts.

They were lying to you[:-]. You are allowed, I think up to 2 weeks or so to take out the warranty after the 111 point inspection.
I've heard of a few people getting the warranty a while after the inspection was carried out. (Myself included)
As is the norm, what one OPC tells you won't necessarily be the same as another.

It was every 12k or 1 year before 2004, thereafter it was every 24 months not 4 years. I doubt anything mechanical changed, just Porsche changing the interval.
You will lose much more on deprectiation buying a newer car than the servicing costs you save.
As David mentioned, you don't need the inspection every year to get the warranty, as long as the car is still under warranty you can renew beforehand and the new one will just commence after the old one has ended.
This link from another thread seems to suggest otherwise in terms of service intervals

Sorry you are correct as you did mention the Major service, I was referring to it just being serviced.
What does the service history of the car look like?
Also do you have the options list from the VIL sticker? That can be useful as often sellers don't know all the options fitted to a car.

As far as I know it has just had the big 24k mile service with change of spark plugs a few months ago. Has got fpsh from main dealer, 3 owners in total. Looks fairly well kept. Will check the VIL for all the extras, but as mentioned is pretty well loaded with everything so assuming they were all fitted from new. There is some rust on brake discs which are visible, but been told that is normal and nothing to worry abt. Can be cleaned with wirebrush which dealer will do and recoated. I guess if it is anything more serious then the 111pt check will say.
I recently joined the fold with a '52 /03 car. I bought privately & got the (11.5 months) of the warranty xferred, it took Reading about a week to sort it. I also had a PPI check carried out by JZM just for comfort. It came up with the usual slight corrosion of rear discs & corroded heat shields. My car has under 20k on it & I am enjoying every last drop of it so far. Seal Grey Coupe, Manual with Metro Blue. I previously had two M3's, probably a better daily driver, but the 996 is a superb tool. I use it for weekends and longer trips and have bought a MK2 golf to buzz about in. Good to know you can buy OE brakes elsewhere........
Just got report back. Radiator leaking, which they are going to replace (dealer is going to pay for it £1000). Apparently have to change the pair of them, even though only one leaking. Air con needs recharging, which they will do once radiators are replaced. Apart from that everything else looks fine. Seems radiators are big problem in these cars. I have seen 3 now all similar ages and they have all either had the radiators changed or they need changing due to leaking. Is this normal, or a manufacturer fault on this age of turbo ?
Good news!
There are 2 common problems with the radiators.
1) They have no protection from stones and can easily become damaged.
2) The radiators get leaves and debris trapped between them, they keep the radiators wet, resulting in radiator rot. Few people know about this problem, and therefore do not spend the time once in a while removing this debris (eg with a vacuum)
No real cause for concern. You can get aftermarket grilles to protect the radiators.
