997 first service

Just had first service for my 997 cab. With the extra years warranty the bill came to £1752 !!! ( did have brake fluid changed and air condition recharged.)

Was charged £199.50 + vat for oil . As I reckon with the spec having 8.25 litres of oil it works out at £28 per litre - pricier than a good malt.

Does this sound a reasonable charge?

I have always taken my own oil and saved a fair bit; got the oil from Costco for £23 for the 4litres and last year picked the 5litres Mobil 1 on the way back from Le Mans for some €24...
 
Sounds pricey to me?

Mine was around £800 and that included a new rear N/S tyre at £350. My warranty didn't come into it as I have the used approved bolt-on up to 3 years.

Why did they recharge the AC, no way that needed doing after 2 years and if the system had been leaking it should have been fixed under warranty?
 
I made a mistake with the rather complex format of the bill. Oil was £106 +VAT but charged £210 for labour to charge the air conditioner - was advised bt the service manager that was routine for a 2 year old car. Charged £105 to change brake fluid. I would have thought brake fluid change more costly that air-con con chanrge.
Also £42 to clean drains and vent.

Check your "Guarantee and Maintenance" booklet, page 11. Minor service items listed for 20,000 miles or 2 years do not include re-charging the air con refrigerant gas. In fact only the "test drive" mentions checking the function of the air conditioning.

This is also the same for the 40,000 mile or 4 year service, function test only during the test drive. In fact, charging the air con refrigerant gas isn't listed at all, even as an "additional maintenance" item?

You only need to re-charge refrigerant gas if the system has lost it's charge due to a leak. This can be detected by the system not cooling or the evaporator icing up. The charge is the same used in commercial air conditioning systems and will run for 10 years without problem as long as the system is leak-free.
 
Sounds expensive to me. Service pricing is listed on dealer websites, and should be the same at every dealership. £402 for the service (inc parts, labour, oil), £113 brake fluid change, and £895 for the warranty I think. Have a look at this example:

I've never had my air con recharged in any car, not that I've kept anything more than 3 years before.
 
Got a bit of a dilema as far as my first service is concerned.

Engine 're-assembled' after X51tweak with oil and filter change at 4750 miles, only managed 600 miles more 5 months later and due its first service end August 07 !

Its barely run in, never mind needs servicing.

Question is have you red lined in with the x51 upgrade yet![:D]
 
I have looked closely at my bill and the menu pricing. It appears that the aircon recharge at £210 +VAT and materials at £14.50+VAT have hiked the charge by £263 incl. The question is does a 23 month old car with 10k miles warrant an air con recharge or not. If there is a leak should it be covered by the warranty? Do I have justification to complain?

 
As in the normal radiators, depends on how the damage was caused.. A stone damaging the radiator would not likely be covered, however a failure should be...
I'd certainly push the fact that it is under warranty and at least ask the question, certainly no harm in that.

I dont want you to name and shame but was the dealer northern or southern.The reason I ask is because my car is due its first service soon and I want to be on my guard!
 
My 997 C2S also had its first service 3 weeks ago. Total price including the extended warranty was £1410.61. The work included oil and brake fluid changes plus filters and other sundry. Frankly I am quite pleased with the cost since this is first service in two years. I was looking at buying a Ferrari 360M but was put off when the dealer told me I should budget £4k per year for servicing! I am sure Porsche must be one of the lowest running cost performance cars around.
 
I've just had my C2 first service and it was a very reasonable £463 inc brake fluid change and 10% club discount arranged by our RO. at the Edinburgh OPC.
 
No need to worry, just check your aircon before you send it in - if it blows nice cold air out, tell them to forget any nonsense about recharging the system!

You get the 10% discount by showing your PCGB membership card.. it does vary from dealer to dealer on how easy and what part of the bill they will give you the 10%

Certainly makes it worthwhile being a member [:D]

My CS2 is due its first service next month. I remember reading on the forum a while back about getting some kind of leak checked that's quite a common problem that's covered under warranty?? Sorry for the ignorance but I am a girl!!!

Can anyone help?? Is there anything else to look out for??
