997 Gen II - Turbo or GT3...?

The longest trip I have done in the car is to the ring from Dorset in one day. No problem at all in comfort terms but to be fair the Turbo is more effortless on the road. In the Turbo I did a track day at Spa and then drove home same day no problem. In the GT 3 I did the track day and then went to the hotel for a few beers.

I think I did a post once comparing the two cars. When you sit in the cars and start them the Turbo just purrs and says to "Come on lets go. You can go as fast as you like and I will take care of you wet or dry" The GT 3 has a lot more attitude it rattles and shakes on tick over and says " Come on pussy let's go I can get you high but you are going to have to work for it. You can go as fast as you like and lets kick some ar**on the way and if you get it wrong I will bite you especially if its wet"

The GT 3 has a lot more character but to get the best out of it and enjoy it you have to drive it not just sit back and relax. The GT 3 is very rewarding on the odd occaision you get it right. The Turbo delivers its performance in a more relaxed/effortless way but make no mistake they are very quick and that accelerative thrust is addictive and licence threatening. The GT 3 feels a lot lighter and you can break later and turn in more sharply as it runs flatter. The Turbo has so much Torque that it doesn't really matter what gear you are in. With the GT 3 you have a lot less torque but a lot more revs to play with and here the addiction comes from the noise it makes.

Two great cars, your choice but you do pay a premium for the Turbo. GT 3 holds it value better from new because it is rarer and you cant buy a new one now. Given the depreciation from new the Turbo is probably a very good second hand buy.

try both and see which one you would choose

Some very good constructive comments on this post. As the poster does not want a every day car I would go for the GT3 every time [:)] you see turbo owners do not have a chip on the shoulder [:D]

well guys
this is interesting as i have been away for the last five days and my laptop failed. gen 2 turbo - gt3. At this moment i am relishing a can of smithwicks, yes i have just got home (19.45 Monday 15Th Nov)after leaving belfast last thursday night on the all night sailing to birkenhead to drive to the NEC Birmingham for the CMS.
Luckily Ann said lets take the X5 rather than the GT3.
We are still feeling the effects of crossing the irish channel last thursday night , Departured belfast at 22.00 hrs expecting to arrive at 06.00 hrs birkenhead but arrived at 11.30. Anyway visited the show and really the first cat i saw was a 2.7rs ( reg no. GIA ) and Ann said thats a real porsche. She seems to have that natural flare for good looking cars and ??? men. Back home Ann has vertigo and I as Bob, have owned both Gen 1 turbo and Gen 2 gt3, they are both super cars but gt3 im trying to tell you well no you need to try both and then reply

good luck

It wont be the daily driver as I have access to others that will do the job well... It will be a car bought solely for self-indulgence to have fun at weekends and fast continental journeys...and perhaps the odd track day...
To me the quote screams that the Turbo would fit the requirements better... but never say never....

OOPS ! Sorry Sunil / fellas...didnt realise there is / was so much 'rivalry' between Turbos and GT3s...

Bob - Thanks ! Very useful comments - rattles and shakes sounds just like my 993 !

Chris (hello !) - I have seen you and Larry in your Turbos.... and can comprehensively lay the blame for the current itch right at your front doors...

I was at Silverstone today for my last track outing of the day. The GT 3 is always great fun in that environment.

There was a guy there in a GT2RS. He absolutely blitzed me down the straights so much so that I had to check the speedo to make sure I wasn't going backwards. That is one very quick car on full boost

I have been considering the same to upgrade my 997C2S and have today picked up a GT3. First 200 miles think the car is amazing. Depends on the intended use but I do not do lots of miles each day and fancied the GT3 more. I reason that the depreciation is lower on the GT3 so if I find that it is too raw then I could always chop it in for a Turbo but it would be harder to do the other way round.
