Evidently, manual gearboxes are becoming less & less the preferred choice!
Must say the PDK was awesome & so responsive[]

On taking a demo drive in a GTS recently, I was told by the Porsche Instructor that 'manual' won't be an option in the new turbo.... no probs with overrevs & warranty issues then.....

I do believe some has had a over rev problem with a tip, which is impossible . Mind you people have signed in blood their cars have not been over revved , without a response from Porsche UK . [8|]

First real drive in the turbo up to Lakes this weekend. All in the garden not rosy just yet. Couple of problems which I am sure can be attributed to the fact that this 06 plate 29k miles car came with set of brand spanking P Zero rosso tyres. First I have a wheel imbalance, easily fixed. And secondly I am just not happy on these tyres, the car is not nicely planted above 90 mph and more prone to side winds than my C2S. Put a set of these tyres on my E46 M3, and brought a whole new meaning to tramlining. Might have given great grip but on anything but smooth tarmac they were evil. Soon went back to the Continentals. The turbo feels just like my old M3 did. So if we dont find a problem with wheel allignment, it looks like its me and these Pirellis. So Gary, just tell me which tyres you have been most happy with over the years, for me on my C2S it was without doubt Michelin Pilot Sports. On way back today started to enjoy car more, maybe tyres scrubbed in a bit, and I was perhaps less tense.
Get yourself checked into Centre Gravity ASAP to start enjoying your car as it should be enjoyed!

Which track did you notice this on? Castle Combe, for example, has some very uneven bits which make the car rather jittery. Or did you whizz over to Germany for the day............?[][]
Try Bridgestones........followed by a trip to Centergravity to get it set up properly[]

Can't break it, faster, no over rev problems and box lasts forever cos you cannot balls it up! PDK better on Gen 2 but you still have two wearing surfaces to replace eventually and so far I have not heard costs but bound to be substantial Tracked mine at the Ring as well as annually at Le Mans and GT3's humbled (except around the corners) when they missed gears. Commuting a breeze. Do not confuse Tip with early automatics or Sportronic. You will be happy with either but after my 996 C4S, 997 Turbo Tip an obvious replacement. Out dragging Gen 1 Turbo manual down the Ring straight was one of the best moments of my life as the car did the work! If you want more fun take up skydiving, but that is another story.
Cheers .

All I can add is that I prefer manual for my Sunday best car, but for use every day it has to be an auto, unlike most on here I hated the low speed issues with my boxster s , a PDK car so much so I sold it (Porsche UK refused to accept it was unacceptable) but I did love my turbo gen 1 tiptronic , I would if I could justify it have one as a day to day car again, there be some cheap ones about soon now 991 is out and even cheaper when 991 Turbo is out!ORIGINAL: jonc4s
Interesting - thanks for the info guys. I'd have been very surprised had the box not been improved!
I've had 2 tips in 996 form now and have had no issues with them whatsoever, it surprises me that they are so badly thought of by most in 'forum' land. I'd have no hesitattion to get a 997 tip in the future. Perhaps I'm lazy....!

Is the Tip actually faster in getting off the line IF you don't do the necessary 'prep' for a perfect launch.
E.g. pulling out from standstill into fast moving traffic, is there a greater delay making a fast manouvre when there isn't time for much thought or preparation? May sound like an odd question but it's the first example that came to mind.
